Description: Designed for the three-semester calculus course for math and science majors, Calculus continues to offer instructors and students new and innovative teaching and learning resources. This was the first calculus text to use computer-generated graphics, to include exercises involving the use of computers and graphing calculators, to be available in an interactive CD-ROM format, to be offered as a complete, online calculus course, and to offer a two-semester Calculus I with Precalculus text. Every edition of the series has made the mastery of traditional calculus skills a priority, while embracing the best features of new technology and, when appropriate, calculus reform ideas. Now, the Eighth Edition is the first calculus program to offer algorithmic homework and testing created in Maple so that answers can be evaluated with complete mathematical accuracy. Two primary objectives guided the authors in writing this book: to develop precise, readable materials for students that clearly define and demonstrate concepts and rules of calculus and to design comprehensive teaching resources for instructors that employ proven pedagogical techniques and saves the instructor time. The Eighth Edition continues to provide an evolving range of conceptual, technological, and creative tools that enable instructors to teach the way they want to teach and students to learn they way they learn best.

Review Summary: awesome quality and price Date: 2008-10-15

Details: I got this book for a price that's as half as the same item at the other places. Its quality is perfect. Highly recommend!

Review Summary: Better than Stewart, but it still sucks. Date: 2008-10-13

Details: The only reason that I didn't give this one star instead of two was because the authors at least *pretended* to be writing a rigorous calculus textbook.

If you are interested in mathematics, and want to actually learn calculus, get yourself a copy of Tom Apostol's "Calculus" ... don't waste your time with Larson's book. If you are planning on majoring in economics, and want to robotically punch numbers into formulas -- this book is for you.

Review Summary: Good Condition Date: 2008-09-24

Details: The calculus book came on time and was is good condition. I am pleased with my purchase.

Review Summary: all new~ Date: 2008-09-16

Details: it's my first buy a book from the internet.I am so wrriered about the quality of the book, but I am wrong. The book looks awesome and it is a real new book. also, the prise is so cheap, if i bought this book in school's book store, it will cost $191 !OMG ! last thing is shiping is very fast!

Review Summary: Concepts are there but... Date: 2008-08-05

Details: Possibly the worst Calculus compilation I've ever seen. No, definitely. The book has several glaring omissions, in terms of concepts, and refuses to use passable grammar or even descriptive language to illustrate its point. It also makes the assumption that your knowledge of pre-calculus and algebra is photographic. In other words, it's impossible to follow the steps outlined in examples without a complimentary reference (unintentional I'm sure...). My students and I were absolutely stunned at the lack of scope in the examples. The accompanying website is moody, at best, and frequently goes down. The ONLY redeeming quality about this book is that it has an abundance of proofs which are explained (terribly) before each section.

I could go on, but why? As others mentioned, new editions make no attempt to solve these problems; they're just there to make money.

Private Tutors and Teachers: If you're looking for a decent Calculus I/II book, you haven't found it here.
