Details: This book was great, it had many explanations of the chemical and space component of the orgins of the world-it gives great evidence for the reasons why God created the universe rather than to beleive in a big bang theory-yes there was a Big Bang but it happened as a result of the command of the Almighty! If you like learning about Dna, and other scientific researches into life in the chemical levels this is great!!! God bless Grant Jeffrey he's awesome! |

Details: CAN THE BIBLE BE TRUSTED?
All truth by definition is narrow. There is only one correct answer to what 2+2 equals.
There is only one correct answer to who the current president is.
We can spend time looking at the 6 billion other people who are in the world and eliminate them one by one or we can look at the evidence to support President Bush as president. If we find enough evidence to support that assumption we can conclude he is the current president.
There are many different religions in the world and all of them contradict the others. They all have their own way to get to heaven. Or they don't know how to get their at all.
What is the criteria that should apply? When applying a standard for a test it doesn't matter what you believe, it only matters what is true. What is true must have evidence to back it up.
There are 3 religions that I'm aware of that have enough evidence to back them up for us to take a look at them. Islam, Judaism and Christianity.
Islam- The Koran is the holy book for them. Jesus is called ISA in the Koran. In Surah Jonah 10:94 it says "And if you (Muhammad) are in doubt concerning that which we reveal to you, then question those who read the scripture (Bible) that was before you. Verily, the truth from my Lord hath come unto thee. So be not though of the waverers".
Surah The Table Spread 5:82-83 claims that Christians are humble, friendly and compassionate people and they know the truth when they hear it.
Surah The Woman 4:136 says a Muslim must read the holy books that came before the Koran. (The Bible)
Surah Al-Imran 3:42-55 Makes 3 points the Jesus is more than a prophet. 1) He is Holy. 2) He has power over death. 3) He knows the way to heaven.
So if the Koran points to the Bible and Jesus. Islam gives us a direction to look to find the truth.
Judaism- The Old Testament is their holy book. Primarily the first 5 books of it known as the Torah. All throughout the old testament we see it points to the coming savior.
So if the Old Testament points to the savior. Judaism gives us a direction to look to find the truth.
What is our case to support the Bible as the only word of God?

1 THE BIBLE IS THE BEST SELLING BOOK OF ALL TIME
Many books have sold in the thousand and some have sold in the millions but non has ever come close to the Bible in sales.
Bibles sell at a rate of about 150 million of them per year. There are currently about 4 billion Bibles in print right now in over 1,400 languages.
The Bible stands alone: If you took 10 people from similar backgrounds, ages and language and asked each of them to write a book about one controversial subject, you would have 10 differing opinions. They would all have trouble agreeing with each other.
The Bible is compiled of :
66 books
Written over a period of about 1,600 years
Had over 40 different writers, fisherman, politicians, generals, kings, shepherds and historians.
The 40 writers were from 3 different continents
Most never met each other or even knew of the others
Spoke in 3 different languages, Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic
Wrote on hundreds of controversial subjects
Wrote in dungeons, temples, beaches, hillsides, peacetime and wartime
Yet all 66 books are in complete harmony with each other as one book we call the Bible
2 THE BIBLE CLAIMS TO BE WRITTEN BY GOD
All other religious texts were written by men who claimed to be speaking for God.
The Bible claims to be written by God, speaking to men (2 Tim 3;16). You will find the term "Thus Says the Lord" over 3,000 times in the Bible. The Bible is not claiming human authorship.
3 HISTORICAL EVIDENCE SUPPORTS THE BIBLE
Homers Iliad is the second best documented piece of literature in antiquity with 643 ancient manuscripts.
The earliest manuscript was written about 1000 years from its original source. No serious historians question the authenticity of Homers Iliad.
Homers Iliad is the second best documented piece of ancient literature. All other pieces of ancient literature you may have read or heard of have less historical evidence to support them than Homers Iliad.
In the Bible. We have over 24,000 ancient copies of portions of the New Testament.
One of those documents was written within 98 years of Jesus death.
The New Testament has over 37 times more parchment, papyrus and manuscript evidence to support it than Homers Iliad.
The New Testament writings are10 times closer to its original source than Homers Iliad.
Just as no serious historians question the authenticity of Homers Iliad, the same is true for the Bible. No serious historians question its authenticity.
Biblical texts are closer to the original written texts than any other ancient texts.
The Bible has no known contradictions. Plenty of people say there are contradictions in the Bible but none has ever been found that is a real contradiction.
Tacitus-a Roman historian and Josephus-a Jewish historian both support the historical accuracy of the Bible.
17 Secular historians who had no interest in promoting Jesus recorded the death of Jesus by crucifixion.
EYE WITNESS accounts.
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote parts of the New Testament. They wrote about indirect and also direct eye witness accounts of the life of Jesus.
When Jesus rose from the dead he was seen by over 500 people in 13 different places over a 40 day period of time.
The Bible gives detailed historical accounts that are down to the smallest details.
The rise and fall of empires like Greece and Rome (Dan 2:39-40).
The destruction of major cities like Tyre and Sidon (Isaiah 23).
4 ARCHEOLOGICAL EVIDENCE SUPPORTS THE BIBLE
Over 25,000 archeological finds provide support regarding people, their titles and their locations mentioned in the Bible. Not one of them has contradicted the Bible.
Nelson Glueck, the renowned Jewish archeologist wrote; "It may be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a biblical reference".
5 SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE SUPPORTS THE BIBLE
2,500 years ago science said there are only about 1,100 stars in the sky. About the same time, the prophet Jeremiah said in 33:22 (the host of heaven cannot be numbered)
Science used to teach that the world sat on the back of a large animal. They believed that because a flat earth in their minds had to be resting on something.
Job 26:7 says of God, "He stretched out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing".
Jobs statement was written about 3,500 years ago. Science didn't catch up until recent history.
2,000 years ago Hebrews 11:3 said "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which do appear".
Science just recently caught up to that one when they discovered atoms are invisible things that make up visible things.
Isaiah 40:22 was written about 2,800 hundred years ago and it says. "It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth". This is back when scientists believed the earth was flat.
Again, science didn't catch up until recent history.
Ask yourself if there are any other areas where the Bible and science don't line up and then decide if you want to believe the word of man or the Word of God.
6 FULFILLED PROPHECY SUPPORTS THE BIBLE
The Bible is the only religious book in the world that has hundreds of detailed prophecies and the records of most of those prophecies fulfilled.
The Book of Mormon doesn't, The Koran doesn't, The Bhagavad-Gita doesn't. In the writings of Buddha, Confucius and Lau-Tse you will not find a single example of prophecy being fulfilled.
In the Koran, the only instance of prophecy you find is when Muhammad predicted that he himself would return to Mecca . A prophecy he was able to fulfill by just returning to Mecca since he was still alive when he made the prophecy.
The Bible has over 2,000 detailed prophecies in the old testament alone. 25% of the Bible is predictive in nature. When the Bible was put together, only about 25% of the prophecies had been fulfilled at that time.
With the exception of the end time return of Jesus, every prophecy written - has been fulfilled.
EXAMPLES: Prophecy is made in the Old Testament & where that Prophecy was fulfilled in the New Testament.
Isaiah 7:14 says "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign; Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel".
Matthew 1:18-25 tells of the birth of Jesus by a virgin named Mary.
Isaiah 9:6 prophesied that the Messiah would be the incarnation of God.
John 8:58 Jesus said "Verily, Verily I say unto you, before Abraham was, I AM".
Psalm 2:7 says that even though He would occupy a human body in this world that the savior would be the Son of God.
Matthew 3:17 says about Jesus. "And lo a voice from Heaven saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Deuteronomy 18:18 says that the Messiah would be a Prophet.
Matthew 21:11 says "this is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee .
Isaiah 11:2 said that the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him.
Matthew 3:16-17 says Behold, the Heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God Descending as a dove and lighting on Him.....
Psalm 16:10 prophesied that the Messiah would rise from the dead. "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt though suffer thine Holy One to see corruption".
Acts 2:31 says "He, seeing this before, spake of the resurrection of Christ, that His soul was not left in hell, neither did his flesh see corruption".
7 STATISTICAL PROBABILITY SUPPORTS JESUS AS GOD
Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies in his life.
Josh Mcdowell had the statistical odds of any 8 of these prophecies coming together on someone and ran the numbers. To just have 8 of them coming true was so large it looks like this.
Fill the state of Texas 2 feet deep in silver dollars.
Paint one of them red and drop it in.
Take a giant spoon and mix all of them up.
Take someone and blindfold them and have them walk anywhere they want for as far as they want in Texas still blindfolded.
They get one chance to pick up the marked silver dollar still blindfolded.
It has to be the marked silver dollar on the first try and blindfolded.
He has an infinitely better chance of doing that than Jesus has of not being God.
That is only if 8 of the prophecies where about someone being God.
There are still 292 prophecies that need to be calculated.
Buddha said at the end of his life: I don't even know if there is a God. I am still searching for the truth.
In the Koran, Mohammed is quoted as saying:
I am in need of forgiveness.
Jesus says in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
God doesn't want any of us to have a blind faith in Him. As Christians, we have a faith based on facts that allow us to make a reasonable decision that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. The bible even tells us God wants us to use logic and reason to make a decision for or against Him.
Isaiah 1:18 says "Come now, let us reason together" saith the Lord.
WHAT ABOUT EVOLUTION?
Microevolution: That is minor variations within the same species. There may be 200 variations of dogs but they are all just a dog kind. Everyone is in agreement here. Christians realize the Bible says God created things with the potential for a lot of variation within its own kind.
Macroevolution: This is what is commonly known as the theory of evolution. Meaning one species of animal can turn into another species. Given enough time and mutations, a cat can become a dog, etc, etc, etc......
THE BIG BANG
They are saying all the planets, space and elements that exist today were once condensed into a ball smaller than the head of a pin, then it blew up.
Questions for the Big Bang:
If just the earth by itself was condensed to that size, what was strong enough to crush it?
It must have weighed a lot. What held it up?
Where did the pin head come from?
If all the matter in space was inside the pin head, what was the pin head floating in?
How did non living matter have enough intelligence to do that to itself?
When has an explosion ever produced order?
2 NO MISSING LINKS IN THE FOSSIL RECORDS:
Charles Darwin said: "As by this theory innumerable transitional forms must have existed, ........... The number of intermediate links between all living and extinct species must have been inconceivably great". We don't have even one missing link anywhere in the world!
Nebraska Man- Created from a single tooth discovered in Nebraska . Based on only one tooth and a lot of imagination. It was sketched complete with a skull, skeleton, tools, and even a family. The tooth was later found to have come from an extinct pig!
Piltdown Man- A deliberate hoax. The skull fragment actually came from a modern human, and the jawbone portion and two teeth were from an orangutan. The teeth had been filed down to make them look human, and the bones and teeth had been stained to give them the appearance being ancient. The entire discovery was forged from the outset to fool people who would not search for the truth.
Java Man- Was constructed from widely-scattered bones. A skull-cap and femur found far apart in a gravel deposit. They were actually unrelated parts of a human being and a giant gibbon.
Peking Man- Was based only on monkey-like skulls that were bashed in at the back. Because they were found with various animal bones and tools, it was assumed that these tool-using apes were mans ancestors. Instead, it was discovered that these animals were mans meal and the tools were used on them and not by them.
Neanderthal Man- Was determined to be completely human. A modern people with a well-developed culture, art and religion but who suffered from a dietary deficiency. Some say rickets and others say arthritis.
Lucy- Could not be a missing link because it was determined that man walked upright before the time of Lucy.
Dr. Colin Patterson, director of the British Museum of Natural History, and a highly respected evolutionist, wrote a book about evolution. When asked why his book didn't include any illustrations of transitional fossils, Dr. Patterson who has 7 million fossils in his museum said.
"I fully agree with your comments on the lack of direct illustration of evolutionary transitions in my book. If I knew of any, fossils or living. I certainly would have included it...... I will lay it on the line. There is not one such fossil for which one might make a watertight argument".
3 HOW DO YOU GET LIVING MATTER FROM NON LIVING MATTER
For evolution to be true, you must get living matter from a primordial ooze that is non living and sits on a non living rock called earth in a non living universe.
We need to begin calculating things in 10 to the something power.
Calculating in 10 to the something power can help us measure Distance, Time & The Statistical Probabilities of something being able to happen or not.
Any statistical probability that has a number that is one chance in 10 to the 50th power is a number so big, it is beyond any chance of ever happening.
EXAMPLES
The earth is 25,000 miles around the center. Measured in inches,
Its 10 to the 9th power
If the earth was 15 billion years old as some say. Measured in seconds
It's 10 to the 17th power
The visible universe in diameter measured in inches
10 to the 28th power
The smallest element man can measure is an electron. If you stuff the entire universe with all the electrons possible so that not another single electron can fit into any more space. Every electron in our universe combined
10 to the 80th power
We have 206 bones in our body. The statistical probability of just 200 of them coming together in the proper order is one chance in 10 to the 375th power.
Hoyle said the probability of an enzyme arising spontaneously was less than one chance in 10 to the 40,000th
Dr. Harold Morowitz, former professor of biophysics at Yale University , estimated that the probability for the chance formation of the smallest, simplest form of a living organism known is:
One chance in10 to the 340,000,000th power
Think about this: If the earth were 15 billion years old and measured in seconds that comes to 10 to the 17th power.
You need 10 to the 375th power just to have 200 human bones come together in the proper order. That by itself would take 22 times more time to happen than we have seconds available in a 15 billion year period of time.
That's 15 billion years times 22 just to have a chance of 200 of our bones to come together in the proper order.
Now just to get a simple form of a living cell from non living matter is one chance in 10 to the 340,000,000 power to form.
That is just one cell and the average human has 60-100 trillion cells. Each human cell is far more complex than the simplest cell evolutionists are describing.
But evolution doesn't even begin at the human stage. They want you to begin at the primordial ooze stage for the first living cell, then go to the tadpole and then the fish, then land animals up to an ape and then to a human. Non of those stages have been calculated to see the odds of happening.
You can have an eternity of eternities of time and never get a single living cell to form from non living matter. This is only one of many reasons evolution is only a "theory".
4 THEOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS of a belief in evolution
1 Corinthians 15:39 says "All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds"
A Christian who believes in evolution has to ask himself if the Bible is true?
Gen 1:21 says So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
A Christian who believes in evolution has to ask himself if the Bible is true?
Gen 1:24-25 Then God said, let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind; cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to it's kind, and it was so.
:25 And God made the beast of the earth according to it's kind, cattle according to its kind and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And it was so.
Gen 1:26-27 Then God said, Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness, .................
:27 So God created man in His own image........................
A Christian has to ask himself if the animals were made after their kind and man was made in the image of God. Can evolution be true?
JESUS SAID IN Matthew 19:4-5 and Mark 10:6-7 say "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female. And for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.
In the theory of evolution, man was at the end of the evolutionary scale, not the beginning.
The Bible says man was made at the beginning, not the end.
For a Christian, in order to believe evolution is true you have to believe one of 3 things about the words Jesus Himself just spoke.
* Jesus didn't know what He was talking about.
* Jesus knew what he was talking about but lied.
* Jesus knew what He was talking about and told the truth.

Details: I realize that it must be a scary proposition to have built a lifetime of beliefs upon the antiquated story of genesis, only to have it torn apart by modern science, but here we are. The scientific community has pushed the religious community for thousands of years, and only in the last few decades has the evidence become so overwhelming that the religous side had to push back, or risk losing face. Again; here we are. I become sad when I think of the millions of intelligent adults that support creationist views, often for no other reason than to support the framework of their own beliefs and lifestyle. Perhaps they think "If there was no almighty creation, then perhaps there is no god. And if there is no god, then why have I been going to church and praying for my entire life?!?!?" Indeed, an intimidating prospect. No matter how frightened you are, you can't "wish away" science. Teach creationism in school?!?! Think again. We have to tolerate the sight of our Presidents clutching your bible, but that's as far as it goes. You cannot have our childrens' minds to pollute. |

Details: It's unbelievable the amount of faith an evolutionist has to have to believe we were all created from molten lava millions of years ago. If you blew up a pile of bricks, would it form into a building if you gave it enough time to evolve? That's what evolutionist believe. We Christians don't argue w/the science. We have the same science and facts that you do. We believe there is a God who created and ordered all of the universe. The historical facts and evidence back it up. We have a Biblical foundation to back up the science -- evolution is based on man's version of the facts instead of God's version. If we evolved from a sigle cell to apes to humans -- why are we still not evolving? Actually, the people in the past were much smarter than we are today because we are looking at the world through clouded glasses of man's "truth" instead of God's truth. I suggest any reading of Ken Ham's Answers in Gensis collection. He dumbs it down so even an evolutionist like Wild Willy could understand. |

Details: To Wild_Willy "Wild_Willy and everyone else who don't believe in the Bible. I read what you say and am sadden. You say that you're a Christian yet you don't believe in at all the Genesis account of Creation. Then I question your salvation whom in Christ Jesus. Because if you take salvation literally as only in Christ Jesus and no one else. Then why not take the Genesis account literally also? You believe "man" over GOD ALmighty! |
