Description: Ever feel like you're being watched? This eye-opening book shows how a new technology may soon track your every move . . . and pave the way for the fulfillment of end-time biblical prophecy. A revolutionary technology called RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) is poised to expose our habits, secrets, and slip-ups to money-hungry marketers, savvy criminals, and government snoops. One day soon, our shoes could keep track of our footsteps. Stores could ID us as we walk in the door. Hidden "tracking units" could log even our restroom visits. Global corporations and government agencies have already invested millions in a plan that uses tiny microchips to uniquely number and track everyday items. Parts of this Orwellian vision are uncannily similar to the prophesies of Revelation. Chipping inanimate objects is just the start-the endpoint is a form of RFID that can be injected into the flesh. This work-an updated version of Katherine Albrecht and Liz McIntyre's controversial and award-winning book Spychips-is a clarion call to Christians to take a stand against plans to monitor and control people through this unnerving new technology. Using public records, real-world examples, and biblical prophesies, Albrecht and McIntyre uncover the frightening story behind RFID and show us how to protect our privacy and civil liberties while there's still time.

Description: The field of bioethics was deeply influenced by religious thinkers as it emerged in the 1960s and early 1970s. Since that time, however, a seemingly neutral political liberalism has pervaded the public sphere, resulting in a deep suspicion of those bringing religious values to bear on questions of bioethics and public policy. As a theological ethicist and progressive Catholic, Lisa Sowle Cahill does not want to cede the "religious perspective" to fundamentalists and the pro-life movement, nor does she want to submit to the gospel of a political liberalism that champions individual autonomy as holy writ. In Theological Bioethics, Cahill calls for progressive religious thinkers and believers to join in the effort to reclaim the best of their traditions through jointly engaging political forces at both community and national levels. In Cahill's eyes, just access to health care must be the number one priority for this type of "participatory bioethics." She describes a new understanding of theological bioethics that must go beyond decrying injustice, beyond opposing social practices that commercialize human beings, beyond painting a vision of a more egalitarian future. Such a participatory bioethics, she argues, must also take account of and take part in a global social network of mobilization for change; it must seek out those in solidarity, those involved in a common calling to create a more just social, political, and economic system. During the past two decades Cahill has made profound contributions to theological ethics and bioethics. This is a magisterial and programmatic statement that will alter how the religiously inclined understand their role in the great bioethics debates of today and tomorrow that yearn for clear thinking and prophetic wisdom.

Description: As a generation of baby boomers nears retirement, our country is facing a dilemma. By 2010, there may be a shortage of 4 to 6 million workers, causing a dearth of effective leaders. Nearly every recent crisis--corporate bankruptcies, political scandals, moral failures in the church--can be traced to a leadership deficit. The common denominator? Broken trust. Author Les T. Csorba sees trust as the most indispensable force between leaders and followers. Here he offers observations gleaned from two decades of experience in government, business, church, and family. Part meditation, part how-to manual, Trust examines characteristics of trusted leadership, including The 7 Principles of the Trust. Finally, the book features interactive elements such as The Leader Check: a guide to evaluating whether you are developing the trust necessary to motivate and richly lead followers.

Description: "An ethical man is a Christian holding four aces." So said Mark Twain. But practicing Christians, at least, want to be ethical in all areas of life and work not just when they are holding four aces. To those faced with the many questions and quandaries of doing business with integrity, Alexander Hill offers a place to begin. Hill carefully explores the foundational Christian concepts of holiness, justice and love. These keys to God's character, he argues, are also the keys to Christian business ethics. Hill then shows how some common responses to business ethics fall short of a fully Christian response. Finally, he turns to penetrating case studies on such pressing topics as employer-employee relations, discrimination and affirmative action, and environmental damage. This is an excellent introduction to business ethics for students and a bracing refresher for men and women already in the marketplace. Market/Audience- Business professionals

Description: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me bedside the still waters; He restoreth my soul. Today's professionals need reliable models to teach them how to become better leaders. In this remarkable book, leadership experts Blaine McCormick and David Davenport introduce us to a new kind of leader by offering a new image of leadership— the leader as shepherd. Drawing on the wisdom of the timeless Twenty-Third Psalm, King David's psalm, the authors provide professionals with ancient wisdom for grappling with today's leadership challenges. Shepherd Leadership offers a much-needed lens through which to consider our own leadership as well as the leadership of those around us. This important book teaches us important lessons about leadership: we can be vigilant without being adversarial, we can serve without being passive, and we can guide without commanding. Shepherd Leadership offers a visionary new model for transforming leadership practices in both corporate and small business settings. This is whole-person leadership. It's not just a matter of thinking or doing things a certain way. It's a fully integrated life— a matter of head and hand and heart. It's a way of thinking and doing and being.
