Description: Since its first edition in 1990, The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook has sold more than 600,000 copies. Its engaging exercises and worksheets have helped millions of readers make real progress in overcoming problems with anxiety and phobic disorders. The Authoritative Guide to Self-Help Resources in Mental Health (Norcross, et al., 2003) gave the book its highest rating and praised it as "a highly regarded and widely known resource." Thousands of mental health and medical professionals recommend this book to their clients and patients every year. Simply put, it is the single finest source of self-help information on its topic available anywhere. The text of this fourth edition has been fully revised and expanded and includes two new chapters: a discussion of physical conditions that can aggravate anxiety and an overview of the use of mindfulness practice in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder and some forms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. As in previous editions, the book offers the most up-to-date information on medications, natural supplements, and complementary strategies that can alleviate anxiety symptoms. The sections on relaxation, nutrition, and exercise have all been updated and broadened.

Details: Early this year, I developed an Anxiety disorder and I had two full-blown panic attacks. The second one was because I got neglecting my medication; it has been the most terrifying experience of my life. If you had suffer such a thing, I don't need to say that you feel like there is no way out, even if a lot of people that love you and professionals are helping you, like in my case. Then a cousin that has very similar problems recommended me this book, and I found a tool to get a grip on my situation and assume my own responsibility to recover. My therapist, a very professional woman, was amazed with my progress just one week after I began applying what I was reading. This book is concise, clear, complete, respectful, humble, well written and well documented; it is a truly life-changer. I wish I could thank personally to Dr. Bourne for it. If you have problems with Anxiety, please don't despair, buy this book and get it and yourself a chance. |

Details: I purchased and read these two together, ( Tao Cycle Therapy ) and was very happy with the combination.
The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook is a good broad reference book full of information that you can pick up any time and flip to a specific section. It reads almost like a textbook which is nice for easily identifying specific areas of interest across a broad spectrum. The other reads more like a short novel almost, it focuses very directly on one specific technique for taking care of this stuff, which was actually really cool. A "friend" suggested that I read both together, and I think that was good advice, and the reason I'm making this comparison. They're totally different styles of book, but both were very helpful in there own way. This one, the workbook educates you and then the other one, gives you a great way to think about and deal with what you learned. I like that it worked out that way because I wouldn't have wanted to miss that effect. So I would recommend either of them by themselves, but the two together ended up being a very good combo.

Details: The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook by Edmund J Bourne is a valuable therapeutic tool for people who are willing to follow its lessons to improve their mood. I bought it for somebody in my family who suffers from anxiety and occasional panic attacks but I have used it for fifteen years with very good results in my clinical work with patients. I strongly recommend this valuable resource for learning skills to overcome the debilitating symptoms of anxiety. |

Review Summary: Comprehensive |

|
Details: Excellent...Comprehensive. Every approach worth considering that I know of is covered and many more...and coherently put together, not just a jumble of unrelated techniques. Only reason I haven't given it the full 5 stars is because I haven't been putting it into practice yet, and so can't unequivocably vouch for the results yet. |
