Description: What is God like? For A.W. Tozer, there is no question more important. In fact, Tozer's desire to know God and His fullness consumed his entire life and ministry. Originally preached as sermons at Southside Alliance Church in Chicago, this first volume of the Attributes of God examines ten attributes: God's infinitude, immensity, goodness, justice, mercy, grace, omnipresence, immanence, holiness and perfection. A study guide is included for an in depth look at each attribute.

Review Summary: The Attributes of God, Volumn One |

Details: I have learned from every book of Tozer's that I have read and I have quite a few of his books. The Attributes of God is an excellent book. Our view of God gets pretty watered down and we tend to forget just who God really is. This book gave me a new perception of God. Tozer bases all of his writings on scripture and I like that. I have recommended this to several of my family members and friends. |

Details: A friend of mine suggested this book after her women's group read it together as a study guide on God's attributes. I had read several books on the attributes of God and have studied the topic as well, so I was reluctant to read another book on the topic.
But, I got the book solely on my friend's recommendation, because I value her opinion. I must say I am very glad I did. First off, Tozer is a very gifted writer. He writes about very thought provoking topics, yet does so in understanding ways. He is extremely insightful and brought up some things I have never thought about. Plus, he answered some questions I have had for decades.
The book is about more than common ideas and concepts on the attributes of God. You know the basics - God is all knowing, omnipresent, omnipowerful. Tozer goes way beyond that. And, rightly so. One insightful thing Tozer mentioned was that a society will never rise above its concept of God. I had never thought about that, but once stated it makes perfect sense. The book is full of such jewels.
I can't say enough good things about Tozer. Since finding him I have shared other of his books with friends and they are impressed as well. It is said that Tozer has on his tombstone simply "A Man of God". No truer words were ever written.
Get this book, you won't be sorry! |

Review Summary: A Must Have |

Details: I am so glad to see these two books (The Attributes of God Vol. 1 and Vol. 2) re-released to the public after having gone out of print. J.I. Packer once wrote, "Theology is for doxology", simply put; the study of God should lead us to praise Him forevermore. Few people lead us down that path as skillfully as A.W. Tozer. While I recommend all Tozer's books, these two books in particular, are vitally important in today's age where true knowledge of God seems to be disappearing at a rapid pace in favor of a "have God your own way" mentality. But the truth is this; God is (as He is and who He is) infinitely more wonderful and beautiful than we could ever have imagined Him on our own. There is no higher activity that the human mind can engage in than the study of God's character - Tozer helps us with this plus invites our hearts to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.
Volume One contains the following chapters; God's Infinitude; God's Immensity; God's Goodness; God's Justice; God's Mercy; God's Grace; God's Omnipresence; God's Immanence; God's Holiness; and God's Perfection.
This book is not just intended to be merely read, but also to be pondered deeply upon and prayed through. You will find it time well spent as you ask the Holy Spirit to take that which belongs to the Lord and make it known to you (John 16:14). |
