Description: Benjamin Bear is so impatient for Christmas to come. To help the time pass more quickly, his mother tells him that every day when he opens a door on his Advent calendar she'll tell him a story—twenty-four stories all about another little bear and his long, arduous journey to Bethlehem. The little bear, led by a glittering star, meets many others on his travels across hot deserts, snowy mountains, and through dark, lonely nights. His adventures, filled with acts of heroism and kindness and many small miracles, show him the path to the Christ Child. And by journey's end Benjamin Bear—and all youngsters who share the stories and their simple morals along with him—will understand and celebrate the true spirit of Christmas.

Description: Jesus Freaks by dc Talk and The Voice of the Martyrs, is a companion volume to dc Talk's album of the same name. It is a book for teenagers about martyrdom, containing dozens of profiles of figures ranging from Stephen, whose martyrdom is described in the Book of Acts, to "Anila and Perveen," two teenage Pakistani girls and Christian believers. In 1997, Perveen was killed for running away in order to avoid marrying a Muslim man; Anila was imprisoned for helping her friend escape. In an introduction to the book, Michael Tait explains its purpose: "In a world built on free will instead of God's will, we must be the Freaks. While we may not be called to martyr our lives, we must martyr our way of life. We must put our selfish ways to death and march to a different beat. Then the world will see Jesus." The book's design is hip and easy to read, and its summary of Christian persecutions that continue today is useful--and frightening.

Description: With exquisite artwork and evocative text, this original fable explores the events of Jesus' life, and demonstrates the role of the Virgin Mary as the benevolent agent of God's people. Reduced to desolation by a king and prince who feel they have been wronged, the residents of a once-favored village must seek help from the queen, a native of their devastated town. Religious subjects are presented clearly in an allegorical style that proves entertaining, and also serves to provide children with examples of virtue and good behavior.

Description: With The Brick Testament: Stories from the Book of Genesis, Brendan Smith reimagined ten classic Bible stories using nothing but LEGO bricks -- and the results were praised by everyone from People and Entertainment Weekly to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati (they've recommended the book to their entire congregation!). Publishers Weekly called it "hilarious" and wrote, "One rejoices that the franchise possibilities could extend for many years." We couldn't agree more. Just in time for the holidays, Quirk Books is proud to present the best-known Bible story of all time: The Story of Christmas. Using verses from the New Testament and a series of elaborate LEGO dioramas, Smith illustrates the birth of Jesus Christ -- from his arrival in the manger to the wrath of King Herod and the famous visit from the three wise men. It's the perfect stocking stuffer for anyone who celebrates Christmas!

Description: This new devotional in The One Year line for families with children ages 5-8 combines beautiful four-color illustrations with skilled writing from best-selling author Gil Beers. Every day's reading features a three-part discussion section: "Remember" (to recall factual information); "Discover" (to learn a lesson that relates to today); and "Apply" (to apply to the child's own situation). This is a format that Gil Beers established in the full-text edition, The Bible for Children. Classic Bible art from that project is reused in this edition.

Description: Finally: Someone Who Gets It
Adults may mean well, but do they really get everything you’re facing as a teenager? The pressure to drink and party, cheat on that test, or give in to that guy? How about the devastation of losing a friend, parents divorcing, or low self-esteem? Who can better relate than your peers? This Is Now is a devotional written by your peers across the country who face the exact same things you do. God wants you to find encouragement and support through one another “that they might be called trees of righteousness” (Isaiah 61:3, KJV). Brief entrées and rich Scripture verses are packed with hope and wisdom to guide you through these challenging years.
This Is Life—
the Real Deal
Nobody said these years would be easy. Or maybe someone did—but it was probably an adult who doesn’t get it. Now, in this 365-day devotional, teens just like you come together from around the world to offer guidance through your toughest questions and situations. The entries are genuine—solidly built on the Word of God.
“Why do we look at the girl next to us and wish we had her hair, nose, or thighs? Did God make a mistake when He made you or me? No way! We are expressions of His ingeniously creative mind.” —CT
“When I got older; I wasn’t so sure of myself anymore. I wanted to grow up, have a career, get married…but I still wanted to climb trees, run, and play.” —KN
“Satan tells me things like, 'You don’t look pretty' or 'Your friends don’t really care about you.' I think these are lies that most girls face. So what do we do with them?” —BPR
“This wasn’t the first time I had vomited a meal. It was just that, well, I ate too much. I wanted to take it back. I didn’t think I was fat; I just wanted to be thinner than I was.” —MJ
Story Behind the Book
“The teen years make up one of the most challenging and exciting time periods in anyone’s life. Teens are faced with temptations most adults either don’t understand or have forgotten about. For the one committed to Christ, pressures are even greater. They look for encouragement, support, and belonging from their peers. Sadly, much of what is found is divisive and destructive. So I figured: If teens are intent on learning from their peers, why not give them incredible peer role models? A book written by teens for teens in devotional format will be an exciting tool for spurring spiritual growth among teens!”
