Description: Praying with Saint Paul is a handbook of daily reflections that leads the reader into the richness of the writings of the great Apostle. The words of Saint Paul are very familiar to us from the readings of the eucharistic Liturgy. Yet, we rarely get a chance to reflect on Paul's wisdom. Praying with Saint Paul offers a kind of lectio divina--a "spiritual reading"--of Paul's letters by which one can go deeply into the mind and heart of this great saint in a very practical, convenient, and "user-friendly" way day-by-day. You will find an entry for each day of the year that starts with a short quotationfrom one of Paul's letters. It is followed by an original reflection by one of the book's thirty-two gifted spiritual authors. Each entry concludes with a thought-provoking prayer. Praying with Saint Paul will guide you through the spiritual treasury of Saint Paul's thought--from the Letter to the Romans to the Letter to Philemon. This volume will help you to meditate, giving deeper illumination and deepening your familiarity with one of the spiritual giants of the Church.

Details: This is not what I expected, but a quality item. There is just so much time to read and the reflections are not quick and easy. I'm sure some would absolutely love it.
Review Summary: Great resource
Date: 2008-07-28
Details: This great little resource first came to my attention when Archbishop Burke of St. Louis recommended it in his pastoral letter launching the Year of St. Paul. The book is a response to Pope Benedict's call for "special publications of Pauline texts" to mark the year. Each day's entry features a short passage from a Pauline epistle, a brief catechesis, and a concluding prayer. The catecheses are theologically rich and very practical -- pastoral is the word that best describes them. Today's entry, for instance, explains how to live the theological virtues, especially love and hope. According to the book's foreword, it is "not an academic study guide," but a handbook to help readers engage in the ancient practice of lectio divina, or "sacred reading." By the end of one year, readers "will have reflected systematically on some of the most significant passages from the corpus of Saint Paul, from the Letter to the Romans to the Letter to Philemon." Highly recommended.

Details: Well, I think this book is fine. It just doesn't share enough Scripture and too many assorted opinions.
