Review Summary: Great NT reference

Details: Theis is an excellent text for its depth and concise way it gets to the significance of the New Testment writings. It contain a rational and evidential analysis of current scholarly theories about the New Testament, i.e textual and form criticism. The authors refute incorrect scholarly theories that are meant to mislead the true Christian down the wrong direction. This book will increase your confidence in the reliability and message of the New Testament. It has the theological, critical and philosophical exchange that will help the introductory student or a student who learned NT criticism from wrong perspective.
The authors give a story form summnary of NT narratives that is easy to follow with an open Bible in hand. A history of New Testament studies with an emphasis on correct hermeneutics (interpretation) is included. Carson and Moo are NT guides of the highest scholarly caliber and the reader can be confident they will take you through rough waters and make you feel elated that our Bibles are the "True " Word of GOd and that the Bible can stand the test of being a solid TEXT and stay standing. I would like more theological reflection as it relates to systematic theology. The great tenants of systematic theology that are covered are elevating for God's glory. A weak point for many is the lack of diagrams, line drawings, and colorful pictures. However, other introductions can give you the pictures you love. This book gives you the higher criticism on higher criticism surrounding the study of the New Testament. I'll take substantial content over nice pictoral colors any day. Great job Carson and Moo.

Review Summary: Makes the simple SO very complicated!
Date: 2008-07-17
Details: I had to purchase this book for a Master's level course. It is the most complicated, wordy, unclear text I have ever read. I am a TEACHER and I have never even seen many of the words used in this book, much less understand their meaning! Addtionally, many passages use such complex ideology and terminology that you really have no idea what the authors are trying to say. Unless you HAVE to buy this book, DON'T!
Review Summary: Dry
Date: 2008-06-13
Details: This was one of the texts for a recent seminary course and it's perhaps one of the most boring texts I've encountered in my academic studies. Not only do the authors fail to hold the reader's interest, the layout of the text on the page is hard on the eyes. Overall it's just a chore to read. There are so many better textbooks out there (and that's what this is in the worst sense of the word) I can't imagine why anyone would choose this one!
Review Summary: Pure Academics
Date: 2008-04-23
Details: This is one of my text books for school. I have to hand it to the authors they really did some research to put this book together. So why did I give it such a low rating? It was a mind-numbing read. Though I was able to glean some interesting stuff from it, it was mainly all academic knowledge. If that's your cup of tea then you will love it. For me, I prefer books that will help me grow closer to God in righteousness, love, and truth. This just didn't do it for me.
