Details: This is a very informative book. It is shocking to see how much has been done right from the beginning to destroy the underpinnings of this country. Everyone should read this and immediately start petitioning your state government to work against the damage done to us by the Supreme(?!?) Court, to the point of resuming the authority ceded to the federal government. |

Details: Mr. Gutzman does a great job of spelling out in detail, but in layman's terms, how our Constitution has been abused almost from the beginning. He also offers useful background on some of the behind-the-scenes negotiations that helped to get it ratified (and the arguments that came back to the fore when the southern states faced the decision of secession 80 years later) and some enlightening insight into the arguments and machinations of various Founding Fathers. He gives far more in-depth, Constitutionally relevant explanations of all of the landmark cases that we had to memorize in our high school history classes (Marbury v. Madison, McCullough v. Maryland, Plessy v. Ferguson, etc.) and makes them easy to understand while he's doing so. I used this as a study reference for a recent final exam in a college class and got an "A". |

Review Summary: Proof that Dr. Gutzman is qualified for Second Constitutional Convention |

Details: Kevin R. C. Gutzman's supremely excellent Politically Incorrect Guide is not only a wake-up call for concerned Americans and a must-read for every student of American history, but proof that Dr. Gutzman is qualified to serve as a delegate in a Second Constitutional Convention, beginning July 4th, 2009 in Independence Hall, Philadelphia.
Let me explain: I think America's political process is broken. Partisanship is rampant. Congress is gridlocked. The US government is like a crashed computer, unresponsive to keystrokes, unable to confront difficult problems like a financial meltdown, corruption, terrorism, environmental dangers. It can't fix itself. A political elite has installed itself which has rigged re-election rules so there are few, if any, competitive contests; routinely over 90% of Congresspersons are re-elected. Money runs Washington. The Supreme Court has become a highly politicized institution which effectively serves in a legislative capacity, even though this was never the intent of the Framers; justices are unelected, and therefore unaccountable to the people. There is a dangerous concentration of political power away from state governments to the federal government, and within the federal government to the executive. Tocqueville would have described American government as "dangerous". The problems are so serious, in my view, that a change of political parties, a new president, or added amendments will be insufficient to fix America.
The most pressing problem, in my view, is terrorism is un-prevented. A bi-partisan committee recently concluded that a major terrorist incident is likely before 2013, probably a biological attack. This reason, alone, is sufficient to justify a Second Constitutional Convention. My strategy to prevent terrorism is also on Amazon called "Common Sense II: How to Prevent the Three Types of Terrorism." But my critique has never been exposed to serious criticism. I challenge Dr. Gutzman and other experts to show me a better solution to terrorism.
What America needs is a new Constitution, based on the existing one but which (1) prevents crime, tyranny, foreign terrorism (2) limits partisanship (3) restores the federal structure in which states regain their rightful authority to regulate their economies (4) restores a proper balance of power between branches of government (5) defines citizenship as a relation between individual and government which has specific responsibilities as well as privileges (6) explicitly defines the powers of state governments (7) restores the rightful role of the judiciary (8) crafts an intelligent foreign policy architecture that permits long-range decision making.
Dr. Gutzman is one of the few Americans sufficiently knowledgeable to fix America. This book proves my point. So, using my authority as a private citizen, I summon Dr. Gutzman to Philadelphia for the Second Constitutional Convention and I hope he will choose to attend, and urge other delegates to do likewise. Please urge Dr. Gutzman to attend by writing your comments below. It's easy. Click on the button and add your comment. Dr. Gutzman reads these comments because he's in touch with people, unlike Washington politicians.
And buy this book; you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended -- Five stars!!!

Details: Learned a lot, and I highly recommend. I concur with many other reviewers. Word of warning, don't listen to audio CD whilst driving, as it may cause you to go into a trance. The voice is very droning. |
