Description: In an easy-to-read text, this book examines growing scientific evidence that is challenging Darwin's theory of evolution: lack of transitional forms in the fossil record, the impossibility of mutations (almost universally destructive) serving as evolutionary building blocks, the bad logic of natural selection theory, the stunning lack of evidence for "ape-men," the mathematic impossibility of life beginning by itself, more. Also explores how Darwinism helped foster Hitler's racial policies and examines how Inherit the Wind grossly misled Americans about the Scopes trial. Addresses the ever-vital question: Are we here by chance or are we created by God? Indexed, over 80 illustrations, hundreds of quotes from scientists.

Review Summary: Pick up a real science book instead Date: 2008-09-13

Details: This type of information is exactly the reason that we are falling so far behind the rest of the world in education in this country. It's bad science...or actually, pseudo-science, meaning it's not even science. It's filled to the brim with fallacies that ANYONE who has a working brain cell can counter.
The only people who are going to think this book is remotely intelligent, are people who are already die-hard creationists, who are just looking for something to back up their pre-conceived notions. They're going to be disappointed when they try to use the arguments they think are so brilliant here, and are instantly quashed.
Do yourself a favor and pick up a science book and get a real education instead.

Review Summary: Darwinian fairytales Date: 2008-06-16

Details: Having the luxury of growing up in an open-minded classroom environment in which all viewpoints were thoroughly discussed and debated (in a public school, no less!), I was taught to think critically and logically when engaged in the study of the world's philosophies, scientific theories, and religious beliefs. My intellectual abilities unhindered, I uncovered facts and evidence supporting and disproving a range of various hypotheses, including Darwinism. Consequently, an actual competition between ideas existed and all students sought truth free from bias and the selective handling of evidence. Nobody attempted to force-feed a pre-approved set of beliefs, religious or otherwise. I once believed this freedom of inquiry to be a hallmark distinction of the American enterprise. Other places practiced the dull, sordid way of suppression, intimidation, and persecution. Because I lived in a free country protected by a Constitution and Bill of Rights, the possibility of returning to this sad state of affairs was minimal. In the red, white and blue, scientists and laymen alike were freed from the tyrannical enslavement of elites who deemed what could and could not be studied. Apparently it has been a while since I stepped into a public school.

It has not been lost on many Christians that the globalist planners and establishment elites require faith in Darwinian evolution to usher in the new world order. Standing in the way of the social planners' desire for a worldwide paradigm-shift is the United States of America, built and sustained by a Judeo-Christian heritage and the truthfulness of biblical Christianity, especially the fact of biblical creation. Darwinism, an enshrined faith along with Marxism and Freudianism, shatters the truth of biblical religion while marching man up the rungs of cosmic evolution so that one-world government may ultimately be achieved.

Although academia has all but purged creationists and "intelligent design" theorists from positions of influence, creation and ID ideas reach a wider audience each day. An ideal overview of creationism, James Perloff's "Tornado in a Junkyard: The Relentless Myth of Darwinism" recounts and exposes the deep-seated flaws of Darwin's theory of evolution and the sound case for Biblical creation. Coming from a background that emphasized the weighing of evidence and logical thinking, I was learned in many of these facts back in high school, but for a majority of Americans, these points will be brand new. There is nothing like coming up for fresh air after years of indoctrination, right?

"Tornado" covers evolutionary arguments, the fossil record, mutations, biology, the biblical flood, geology, mathematics and probability, the origin of life, etc. As for Darwinism, after receiving shockwaves that hinder and destroy its foundation, the bankrupt theory does not have a leg to stand on. Perloff decimates the current dogma on evolutionary theory and supports creation on scientific, not biblical, grounds. More disturbing is Darwinism's ideological descendants: Nazism and communism. While not all Nazis and Stalinists were atheists, they certainly didn't believe their actions would be noticed by any God.

The book emphasizes the Biblical account of creation. Others, like Michael Behe's "Darwin's Black Box" and "The Edge of Evolution," highlight intelligent design as an alternative to biblical creationism. Depending on which theory you prefer, the Darwinian hypothesis keeps crumbling. These are works that attack evolution on scientific facts, not biblical interpretation. Therefore, the squabbling about young-earth and old-earth creationism should be relegated to more picayune discussions.

Darwinists revel in ridicule and rhetoric, not evidence. Ben Stein's documentary "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" reveals the virulent anti-Christian views of evolutionists like Dawkins, P.Z. Myers, Peter Atkins, and Daniel Dennett. It is why they do not involve themselves in debate with creationists, even those very creationists posess advanced degrees in science, as many members of places like the Institute of Creation Research and Answers in Genesis do. "Tornado in a Junkyard", for a Christian looking for an intellectual battle with atheists and Darwinists, is a worthwhile addition to your arsenal.

Review Summary: Fascinating, Eye-Opening, Compelling. Date: 2007-11-10

Details: I just finished this book on a plane. I am an attorney, and largely an agnostic, though I believe there is a higher power.

This book specifically addresses virtually every aspect of Darwinism and evolution, answering many of the questions I had along the way. As I have written elsewhere, I always "believed" in evolution because it seemed, on the surface, logical. However, after reading this book, I can't stop thinking about the arguments it raises clearly and well, and just how little evidence there is for evolution from a primordal soup to man. Indeed, I had no idea the creation theory (while I don't fully buy it) is much less a leap of faith than Darwinism/Macro-evolution. This only becomes obvious when you understand fully what little evidence there is for it. Perloff convinced me that evolution is more a slap at a divine being than a rational supportable scientific theory.

I posed several of the questions to a friend of mine who teaches college biology and zoology. His answers were largely sophmoric pablum I tore apart slowly and methodically with more questions. Once you know what to ask, and have a handle on the evidence and science, it is much easier. Finally, his face went blank, his voice fell silent, and he mustered up the honesty to tell me there really is very little evidence to support macro-evolution. He also said the fully developed fossils found in the oldest layers are "troubling," and the recent developments in DNA and cellular research has--in his words--"nearly closed the door on Darwin's theory." What, I asked him, does this leave us with? He could not say, but he said more and more of his science colleagues are seriously questioning evolution. "What proof is there for evolution?" "None," was his final answer. After reading this book, I can understand why. And he teaches evolution.

I have never cared where facts lead, and value clarity over agreement. Now I believe I have a good understanding of why evolution is so utterly impossible. In fact, I laughed when I finished the book, because knowing WHY it is impossible makes the entire Darwinian house of cards crumble--quickly.

Now my agnostic world has been turned rather upside down. I am not convinced about the creation God-push at the end of the book, but it sure makes a lot more sense than Darwin. Read the book and see for yourself. No one can claim with definity how we got here, but I am now very comfortable knowing that it was not evolution. Time, for me at least, to look elsewhere for the answers.

Review Summary: Contrarian Review Date: 2007-10-23

Details: You may not want to read this short comment at all, because, honestly, I have not read the book. I read other folks' comments.
That was enough. ( I have given the author five stars because
it simply wouldn't be fair to reduce any ratings based on a
non-reader's negative review.)

There is proof -- substantial, repeatable, undeniable proof that
low-level compounds can form into pre-analogs of DNA. Look up
Eigen and Schuster, who created a revolution in biochemistry
when they discovered this. After that, read anything by Christian
de Duve, who covers this ground excellently.

There is proof -- again, very powerful -- of "live evolution".
We see it in bacteria, we see it in mutation of anti-biotic
resistant flu bugs, we see it in songbirds and bees. There
are dozens of lay books and thousands of articles on this. They
cover everything from low level examinations of gene expression
under environmental pressure to historical studies.

There is proof that mutation can do something besides
create "junk". Think folks: how can hospital bacteria
"develop resistance" to antibiotics, unless the bacteria
families themselves are mutating over time?

Lastly, for now, why does the human genome have FEWER
base pairs than, say, rice? Maybe humans are more perfected?
Maybe the extra or 'silent' DNA found in many other 'lower'
level species has been pruned OUT of humans, as they've
approached higher levels of perfection? ( I don't know, this
is a guess...)

Look -- I believe in Spirit/God/Higher Power, pick your
pleasure. But using bad writing and bad arguments parading
as science to support our beliefs just does one thing. It
perpetuates the myth that believers are anti-intellectual,
and it makes us look foolish.

Meanwhile, back at the library, start with NEODarwinism, not
Darwinism, please. No serious biologist espouses "darwinism"
any longer. This is a straw man. The theory itself has grown and
matured over time, and "it ain't your daddy's Ford" anymore. I'd
recommend starting with Steven Jay Gould and moving forward
into this millenium. (And in the next decade, you'll be reading
about Craig Venter creating life in his laboratory, by the way.)

Thanks for listening....and good luck no matter what your journey.

Review Summary: How Creationism can poison an intelligent mind Date: 2007-06-29

Details: I gave this book three stars because it is a fascinating peek into how a Creationist mindset can blind even an intelligent person seeking the truth.

As one reviewer said previously, a "hole" in a theory doesn't mean that an alternate theory is immediately true, especially one as farfetched as Creationist theory. The "holes" in Evolutionary theory are miniscule compared to those is Creationist theory.

Using your rationality, I ask you this question: which is more believable to you: Darwin's theory of evolution or the literal belief in Noah's Ark? Please, use your head!
