Description: I read the newest edition of this book and found it extremely compelling. The point that Morris makes is very clear: Since there is no way that any of us could be there to witness the origin of the universe, we have to look at the evidence to see if our model is consistent with the evidence. Creationism, by the evidence presented in this book, is by far more consistent with the evidence than is Evolutionism. But you won't hear that in the public schools which daily indoctrinate our children to accept the theories of evolution simply because the teacher says so. And somehow this is considered good science? This book says to take a good honest look for yourself.
If I could give any critique, it would be that I wanted more information. But I know this is meant to be an intoduction, even if it is clear and compelling. I guess I'll just have to find more books on this fascinating subject.

Review Summary: Little Flakey Date: 2008-07-08

Details: As a so-called "fundamentalist", I anticipated Dr. Morris' book. I was a little curious as to how updated the book was, and well it really isn't. For it's time, the book undoubtedly would have been a great tool for scientific Creationists but in 2008, a book published over 30 years citing 40,50,60, and 70's sources is a little useless for today. However, I still believe, in an argumentative sense, Dr. Morris does a fantastic job presenting his case. Whether he is wrong or right, he has done a great job of researching and especially making Science (me, History major) fairly understandable. He provides a great argument on the Biblical case for a literalist view of Genesis 1.

It would truly be best, if someone could update, revise, or even add appendixes to this book in order to answer the critics from evolutionalists. I believe this would allow the book to also be a wonderful tool for Christians to use on a scientific basis if the changes were done. If not, then you will have Christians citing Dr Morris' argument on "radiometric" method of dating when it seems to have been proven more accurately.

This does not really deserve a 5/5 for the sole purpose that it lacks a good update with modern evolution. It does however answer many questions that I had when approaching the book (ex. vestigal structures, "who created God?") and for that I was truly suprised. Dr. Morris knows his stuff and I am sure, if he were alive, he would provide a constant and well-documented case for Creationism.

Review Summary: Logical and accessible Date: 2008-06-29

Details: Those who disagree with the book's premise tend to find reasons to dislike it. However, if you read the book without preconceptions, you'll find that it is clear, concise, and makes much more sense than the Darwinian theory of evolution that most of us have been brain-washed at school to believe. The theory of evolution contains numerous gaps, questioning of which gets one automatically on the teacher's and classmates' fecal roster. So I never asked. Then along came books like Scientific Creationism, Tornado in a Junkyard by Perloff and The Lie Evolution by Sarfarti and I found why Darwinists hate to be questioned. It's because they cannot answer the questions which their theory arouses. Books like Scientific Creationism, on the other hand, are able to provide answers which are both reasoned and accessible to the average lay reader.

Review Summary: A plastic "jewel" in the creationist crown! Date: 2008-05-22

Details: Like fake jewelry, the slick, well marketed pablum of groups like Answers in Genesis and the Institute for Creation Research, turns out to be, on closer inspection, a poor imitation of the real thing. Instead of well-reasoned and researched scientific theories, we're offered pseudo-scientific "creation theories" that utilize neither rational thought nor the scentific method. Such "theories" are religious/philosophical in nature and have NO place in any science classroom. True scientific theories are subject to falsification, but the so-called creation theories of Morris and co. AREN'T,... due to their being based on theological presuppositions and not on any physical evidence. Hard to believe I used to eat this stuff up so many moons ago!

Review Summary: An Utter Embarassment for Christians Date: 2007-09-24

Details: A middle school student possessing a mere solid grasp of what the requirements are for a logical, valid argument could have written a more accurate and edifying book - and done so without having any knowledge of science beyond the facts (and also the "facts") that he uses to construct his own arguments.

I do not speak out of a desire to be hyper-critical; but rather to emphasize its massive failure. Not only is it not edifying for the church body, but it is also flat out DANGEROUS if relied on as a preparatory tool for people who may, for example, be starting college. This is because it provides arguments which are easily refuted (many are self-contradictory) by anyone with just a modest knowledge of the issues involved. The result is setting up young Christians for failure and confusion (assuming the arguments in this book are adopted by those seeking such intellectual training). Additionally, some of his scriptural interpretations, which he dogmatically asserts, are so erroneous and irrational that any Christ-centered theologian will be astonished at the editorial irresponsibility required for this book to have been published as is.

It is worth noting that this specific book has been assigned by atheistic college professors for classes and seminars on creationism VS. evolution because doing so allows them to claim that they are presenting a balanced reading list and, at the same time, subtly paint an impression of Creationism and the Bible as utterly silly; an example of the apex of ignorance.

On several occasions, the book makes arguments in one chapter which are completely contradictory with other arguments made in different chapters. It legitimately reads as if it were written by a succession of ten different people who never once discussed their own submissions with the others.

There are many excellent Christian books on this subject which are truly edifying and helpful - stick to those.
