Description: Mary, Elizabeth, and Anna. Three very different women, at different ages and stages of life. One single, one married, one widowed. One just beginning to experience life. One coping with the challenges and changes of midlife. And one coming close to the end of her life.

But these women had one thing in common. They chose to submit to God’s will, even when it didn’t seem to make sense. Take a closer look at their words and actions, and see how each woman had a unique purpose in God’s great plan to bring His Son to earth.

A willing heart, a hearing heart, and a faithful heart.

The Three Wise Men, though mentioned only briefly in the Gospel of Matthew, are well-known characters in the Christmas story. But we know very little about them—not even their names, or if in fact there were three of them.

But the Scriptures do teach us for certain about three wise women—Mary, mother of Jesus; Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist; and Anna, a prophetess who proclaimed the good news of Jesus’ birth.

Each woman played an important role in the Christmas story. They didn’t give Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, as the wise men did. But they did offer Him their most precious possessions: their hearts.

Review Summary: THREE WOMEN WHO PREPARED THE WAY FOR CHRIST Date: 2007-01-25

Details: Three women -- one single, one married, and one widowed -- have much to teach us about following God's will, even when it doesn't make sense at first.

Mary was chosen while still a teen to become mother of the Messiah. Elizabeth, ripe in middle age, gave birth to John the Baptist to prepare the way. And faithful Anna prayed night and day in the temple, announcing the Son of God's arrival to all who would listen.

In this gorgeous red-and-gold foil gift book, author Christin Ditchfield brings these women's stories to life and shows how God can use each of us, no matter how insignificant we feel. This makes a perfect gift for any woman longing to grow in spiritual wisdom.

Review Summary: Get closer to these women's stories Date: 2006-01-13

Details: In The Three Wise Women, Christin Ditchfield highlights significant roles three seemingly ordinary women have in the Christmas story. Like the three wise men, these women gave gifts of great value. Because these women came from different stages of life, they each had unique lessons which transcend time. This book takes the reader closer to their stories, which reveal each of their hearts.

Christin Ditchfield is a radio program host, a conference speaker, and an author who challenges her readers to deepen their relationship with Christ. This short book, written in three chapters, takes the reader into the lives of Mary, the mother of Jesus, Elizabeth, the mother of the prophet John, and Anna, who speaks of the newborn's arrival. She shows how each of these women surrendered their lives to God and to the purposes He had for them.

Mary comes into the Christmas story with a willing heart. In a moment she knows that the plans she had were not going to work out in the way in which she had been expecting, yet she responds with willingness and submission to the will of God. Elizabeth's part in the story is revealed through her readiness to listen for God, even when it may have appeared that He was not listening. Because she had been listening, she knew to greet her sister as the "mother of my Lord." And lastly, because of Anna's obedience to worship God through even difficult times and circumstances, she was at the temple when Mary and Joseph arrived to present their child to the Lord. This faithfulness allowed her to speak to all "who would listen about the goodness and greatness of our God. She proclaimed His salvation with all her life's breath."

I recommend this book to all women. Let's face it, we women tend to be the keepers of the holidays and this is especially true at Christmas as many of us find ourselves shopping, baking, decorating, and hosting. As we walk through this amazing time of year, may we remain wise as we reflect on the lives of these three women. - Sheri Carlstrom, Christian Book Previews.com
