Review Summary: Awakening from Myths and Fairy Tales
Date: 2006-11-06
Details: This is an excellent book for women who are committed to Christian faith but feel increasingly invisible, lonely, and dissatisfied by a patriarchal church. The book is written by 21 lay women who courageously and generously share their personal struggles "of walking in the worlds of home and work, society and church, relationships and independence, the inner world and the outer world". These authors examine the myths and fairy tales women have internalized. They demonstrate that for women to deepen our spiritual growth, we have to ask questions, go through the painful process of sorting and shedding, and come to more authentic ways of living and being. I use this book for the women's counseling class I teach and the women's groups I lead. The book helps women to feel less isolated knowing that other women are going through similar journeys.
