Description: Buy this book for Chapter Three alone, but be sure to read the other words of wisdom. Yes, as the previous reviewer said, it is chocked full of Biblical references but it is not just written for religious leaders. It can be applied to all aspects of leadership and inspires-in the words of the author-"leaders who happen to be women" to stand strong against the stigma of "stepping out of place" into positions of power and authority. And while the focus is on women's leadership, the fellas can get a few shots of leadership adrenaline from this work also. I have had the honor and pleasure of hearing Bishop Mackenzie speak. Her writing is as powerful as her oratory skills. She has written the spiritual pep talk we all need. She could have easily called the book Strength FOR The Struggle.

Review Summary: Lessons in Change
Date: 2006-11-10
Details: Bishop Vashti McKenzie is a wonder. Having read "Journey to the Well" and finding it so pivotal to my own life, I wanted to read more from her.
"Strength in the Struggle: Leadership Development for Women" is about so much more than leadership. It is about personal growth and change for women. From lessons on "Participate In Your Own Rescue" to "Do You Know Who You Are?" Bishop McKenzie imparts to you a spirt of a woman warrior ready to do battle. Not only to do battle, but to win against the very things that have held you back from reaching your God given destiny. In clear, concise language you will learn lessons in maturity and leadership from the Wizard of Oz's Dorothy. From the Queen of Sheba, you will learn strategic thinking and relationship building. These lessons will leave you empowered, energized and enthused about the gift of your life. As with "Journey to the Well" I shared this book with all my women friends. This book should be required reading for all women of African descent in this country by the age of 16. It would make a difference in how we think about ourselves, the world and our place in it.
