Review Summary: Oddly Interesting Date: 2008-09-12

Details: This book was written while the author was still a traditional Christian. It is my understanding that she has gone on to write things that conflict with the Bible and the teachings of Jesus. Consequently, this book can serve as a warning because at the time this book came out her insights were quite good.

She has some helpful insight on praying continually. In essence it has to do with being conscious of God's presence all the time and sharing life as it is lived with Him. Chronologically she begins her journey by describing that she was overwhelmed with busyness, trying to please people and "earn" points with God. She took time to reflect on life in a spiritual community and initially was challenged in living out the peace she experienced there in the hectic world to which she returned.

If she had maintained orthodox Christian beliefs she could have be used greatly in helping people to connect with God. However when one reads of the anti Christian vain philosophies of man she has advocated it is sad to see how such a gifted communicator could be deceived.

Review Summary: a letdown from secret life of bees! Date: 2007-07-11

Details: ok, definitely not what i was expecting but some food for thought...i like joel olsteen's a better life now, much better!

Review Summary: Hooey! Date: 2006-04-03

Details: I TOTALLY agree with "A Reader" that posted on January 10, 2004... titled." What Would Sue Monk Kidd Do?"
This reviewer captured my thoughts exactly. WHY would anyone want to read a spiritual book written by a woman who abandoned her Christianity? Please! This author has one book that is good..."The Secret Life of Bees," and it's fiction! Stick with fiction, Ms. Kidd. You seem to do it in your own spiritual life, so writing it should be simple.

Review Summary: the right book at the right time Date: 2005-11-06

Details: I read this book years ago and have re-read it many times since. Not only did Sue Monk Kidd's experience resonate with me, but she introduced me to some fantastic writers. I highly recommend this book for anyone searching to know God better.

Review Summary: Being non-judgmental Date: 2005-07-26

Details: I have not read this book specifically, but I read what 'a Reader' said about Sue Monk Kidd and her writing. I would encourage that reader and others to remember what Jesus taught us about being forgiving and about taking the plank out of our own eye before removing the sliver in our sisters eye. When she wrote this book, her walk must have been strong...if she is now stumbling, will hate restore her to Christ? or will love, the second greatest commandment? Yes, we have to use discernment, but of all the gifts, faith, hope and love, love is the greatest. I think we forget that far too often and pass judgment on others. God may be doing a work on her as we speak. If you really care so much, put her on your prayer list as she is in the public eye and I say this with all love...remember, you too will stand before Jesus one day and give an explanation about your harshness toward others, even if you don't know them personally. I plan to buy the book and just because she stumbled in her walk, doesn't mean that reading her book is going to take one down the same path.
