Details: I like Patrick's books, but I was expecting more information on how to survive during and after such a cataclysmic event. This book contained much of the same information from his previous books on the subject. I would have liked more exact information on where to go and what to do. I think this is a good book for general information regarding 12/21/2012, but I would recommend his previous book, The Orion Prophesy, which was a lot better. If you are looking for answers to exactly what you need to do and where you need to go to survive, you won't find them in this book. This book left me with a lot of unanswered questions that I now realize that Patrick or anyone else probably cannot answer with definite accuracy. How anyone would survive through these possible upcoming events, is anyone's guess. |

Details: After reading many websites about the 2012 end of days scenario, I purchased this book for more information. I read through all the horrible results of the pole shifting including massive volcanoes, tidal waves, destruction of all buildings, inundation of sea water inland on crops, destruction of ports, and so forth. Finally, I get to the issue at hand -- survival. He starts out fairly reasonable with information as to sterilizing water and making compost with human waste (odd necessity following the calamities). Then, he progresses into what to eat. I am ready for copious information about how to trap animals, edible plants, etc. and he presents me with the essential healthy fruits and vegetables diet accompanied by menus. He initially raves about the virtues of kiwi, ending with its sex drive properties. Odd, I think. But, how about enjoying a nice breakfast of steamed bananas and fresh squeezed orange juice, to be followed with young bean shoots and semi-polished basmati rice sprinkled with freshly grated coconut.
I shouldn't have to state the obvious, but where does one plan to attain those items while living in a cave in the mountains of South Africa while tidal waves are pouring in and the sky is blackened with volcanic ash?
I read the warnings of books such as these, that the authors are usually trying to get you to buy some product. Sure enough, he has four books on eating healthy. Hmmmm.
So, perhaps I will check out another book, but will definitely be skeptical of the facts. How To Survive 2012 |

Details: If you want to survive of any cataclysm (incl. 2012) then this book does not help you at all. It's purpose seems to be creating fear in people from well-being countries. Most of the suggestions are ridiculous, in style "how to get food if electric can opener batteries are empty." There are almost no suggestions about preparations for any surviving in advance. Seems to me that Author of this book simply cannot imagine, what is living in nature all about. I would suggest him before starting next book to visit some Amish village, spend some time outside of the city on some agricultural environment or visit some area/country with developing economics (like the one where I come from).
If someone wants to learn/prepare how to survive outside of civilization then I would suggest to buy either Camping & Wilderness Survival: The Ultimate Outdoors Book or SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the Wild, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea. Sorry, but even watching popular movies like "Mad Max" or "Waterworld" are probably more educational in this field than current book. If you want to read about 2012 theory, there are also better books available. Maybe you are interested in Twelfth Planet: Book I of the Earth Chronicles (The Earth Chronicles) for instance. |

Review Summary: 2012 AN ORTHODOX BAHA'I PERSPECTIVE |

Details: Through the cracking of codes, unveiling magnetic reversals of the sun, translating hieroglyphs, study of old maps, decoding astrological clues, and geological research, Patrick Geryl forecasts a world cataclysm December 21, 2012.
For those who accept the Orthodox Baha'i Teachings, Geryl's forecast has some basis for consideration. When 'Abdu'l-Baha sailed on the Cedric in 1912 concurrent with his historic visit to the United States, He related that before a hundred years had passed, waters would reach the lower floors of the New York City skyscrapers. Had He sailed on the Titanic as scheduled, He may not have survived. When recalling the sinking, `Abdu'l-Baha said "...Therein is a mystery; but whatever the reason... it was a very sad occurrence, one which brought tears to many eyes and distress to many souls. I was greatly affected by this disaster...I am very sad indeed. But when I consider this calamity in another aspect, I am consoled by the realization that the worlds of God are infinite; that though they were deprived of this existence, they have other opportunities in the life beyond, even as Christ has said, "In my Father's house are many mansions."
`Abdu'l-Baha continues "...Let no one imagine that these words imply that man should not be thorough and careful in his undertakings. God has endowed man with intelligence so that he may safeguard and protect himself. Therefore, he must provide and surround himself with all that scientific skill can produce. He must be deliberate, thoughtful and thorough in his purposes, build the best ship and provide the most experienced captain; yet, withal, let him rely upon God and consider God as the one Keeper. If God protects, nothing can imperil man's safety; and if it be not His will to safeguard, no amount of preparation and precaution will avail."
--"The Promulgation of Universal Peace" pages 46-49
Although Geryl does not come from a background of religious urgency, he provides a glimmer of hope "...In the face of this immense cataclysm, Geryl urges mankind to prepare and endure. The outlook is bleak, but the obstacles are not insurmountable."
Orthodox Baha'is are aware that the Central Figures of their Faith and the three guardians forewarned of a time of great upset and tribulation, and Baha'u'llah shared His thoughts of future events as well. "The world is in travail, and its agitation waxeth day by day. Its face is turned towards waywardness and unbelief. Such shall be its plight, that to disclose it now would not be meet and seemly. Its perversity will long continue. And when the appointed hour is come, there shall suddenly appear that which shall cause the limbs of mankind to quake. Then, and only then, will the Divine Standard be unfurled, and the Nightingale of Paradise warble its melody."
-- "Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh" pages 118, 119
After laying a background based upon secrets of a distant past, Geryl begins discussing his expectations of what we might expect during and after The Event. One wonders how anyone could survive. Notwithstanding his bleak outlook, he outlines the rebuilding process. He opines that the destruction will differ among discrete geographic regions. A new planetary surface will be presented. Geryl cites desirable physical traits for the "new" communities, based upon climate, transportation and food production. He predicts that large areas of America and Europe will be buried in billions of tons of ice, as they were 12,000 years ago. "North America will undergo the greatest amount of change. "A large part of the continent will disappear under the North Pole. A new land-mass will appear...the Aha-Men-Ptah, the legendary Atlantis that is now buried under the South Pole. After the melting of the ice cap", he relates, "this is the ultimate place to restart civilization. In fact this continent is my personal preference."
"The shift will wipe out entire populations of many animal species along with billions of people belonging to the most advanced civilization ever." The biggest hurdle of all? How do survivors reconnect with others? Where to assemble and how? Electronics will vanish due to solar flares, and satellites will not survive. The gloomily depicted situation seems to portend no possible way for anyone to survive. Orthodox Baha'is know that is not true. All the world's problems have a spiritual solution as a basis for physical solutions. We should have been preparing as a society for an event such as this from the beginnings of the Baha'i Faith in 1863. All mankind has been expecting some sort of event at the end times to usher in God's Kingdom. Christians pray every day "..Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, in earth as it is in Heaven..."
Humans have the expectation that some sort of event will happen at some time in the future to facilitate what Christ foretold, as the prelude of everlasting peace on earth, when the True One would appear and provide God's Kingdom. In the views of Orthodox Baha'is, the foundations of that society have already begun, and will eventually prevail at such time as humans are spiritually capable of uniting under the banner of God and follow his Covenant. We have the assurance in 'Abdu'l-Baha's Will and Testament that a world encompassing society will develop and be the focal point of God's Kingdom.
This book gives what may be a possible preview of what we may expect to physically happen in the future, on schedule in the unending cycle of physical change that periodically has occurred time after time over millions of years. Humans of intelligence should know that at some point this will happen. The evidence is palpable. There are two qualities that will have to prevail in the intelligent rebuilding of the planet. Each one who intends to survive must do all the physical preparation he/she is capable of doing, and foremost, he/she must be spiritually prepared for The Event.

Review Summary: Good Golly Miss Molly!!! |

Details: I've awarded this book 2 stars on the basis of the major effort of the author's arithmetic calculations. Otherwise I would have been forced to rate it lower. The author's conclusions are muddled. He seems to confuse the relatively common gravitational shifts with the far, far less common axis shift. An axis shift, to be certain, would probably be quite impressive but a gravitational axis shift, less so.
Just as bad, despite the author's dire prediction of a near total apocalypse, he goes on merrily to discuss ideal menus for the survivors. He's big into kiwi fruit, baked bannanas, orange juice, avocados and multiple other vegetarian delicacies. This is certainly confusing. If his scenario is even ten percent correct the rare survivors will be lucky to get the occasional moldy potato or skinny rat.
Also, it will be very important to properly train the young survivors in this Hell turned Utopia. It will be very important that they are taught not to make the same mistakes that led to the catastrophe that destroyed the earth [????]. This is truly confusing because earlier the author indicates that the 2012 world shattering catastrophe is entirely the product of irreversible natural phenomena.
Fortunately, we don't have long to wait to verify the author's calculations. I'm counting down and I'm overjoyed that I'm in South Africa where I can climb into the Drakensburg [ideal location] to wait out the destruction of the rest of the earth. Then again, the author alternatively suggested that an indestructible yacht might be an even better idea. Maybe I can suggest a third choice: Build an indestructible yacht loaded with kiwi fruit and bannanas, and moor it high in the Drakensburg. Perfect.
