Description: Based on the conviction that biblical prophecy will be literally fulfilled, The Sign powerfully presents the Bible's teachings concerning the Antichrist's identification and how he will control the world, the sign of the end of the age, the signal of Christ's return, and the church and the Great Tribulation. This revised edition of the concise, sequential overview of the End Times has an urgent message for every Christian.

Details: Van Kampen has written what I believe to be the most scholarly work on Biblical end times. Most books written on this subject start with a 19th century doctrinal invention called "the pre-tribulation rapture" to explain end times. Van Kampen, on the other hand, simply researched the Scriptures to see what they say about end times. The results are refreshing and a very good read for anybody not locked into the 19th century doctrine. |

Review Summary: Interesting take on endtime events |

Details: I am still in the middle of reading this book so I cannot fully comment on it. Although an interesting read I am inclined not to agree with every point that this author espouses and I would definitely have your bible in hand and check out the scripture references he cites.
Not to spoil the fun for everyone but the chapter entitled Antichrist Revealed this author narrows his selection down to Nero or Adolf Hitler leaning more toward the latter than the former. This in my opinion is going to be a tough sell. Considering the history of Hitler and the Third Reich this author would have us to believe that the Jewish people are going to embrace this individual as their expected messiah. The man with all the answers? I DON'T THINK SO! I believe the author is reading his own interpretation of endtime events into scripture inorder to convince the rest of us as to the veracity of his claims.
Additionally this author would have us believe the first 6 seals are the wrath of satan while the opening of the seventh seal and what follows afterwards constitutes the wrath of God. Look at the context of Revelation chapter 5:3,5 Noone in heaven, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to to open the book, or look into it. When you check the context of scripture please notice that only Jesus is able to take the book from His Father and break its seals and no created being and that includes satan is able to break its seals. What this means is this the opening of the first 6 seals preceding what follows cannot be construed as satans wrath since the clear context of scripture states that only Jesus is worthy to open the book and its seals. So the opening of the seals of the book constitutes the wrath of God and not the wrath of satan, although in the endtimes God will use satan inorder to accomplish his good pleasure.
What the author does in this book is provide a blow by blow description of how events will unfold in the last days and in doing so he uses scripture to support his own viewpoint. I would not accept this authors opinion as gospel instead I would lean on scripture as the final authority.(see Deuteronomy 29:29, Acts 1:7) |

Review Summary: Van Kampen makes sense |

Details: I used to read books about prophecy, particularly endtimes, and wonder if the authors had some private source of info beyond the Bible. That didn't make sense. Then I ran across Marv Rosenthal and Bob Van Kampen. Now I can open my Bible and use Van Kampen's books as guides to what is actually there. No gaps in his thinking. And, like another reviewer noted, he teaches the same things that were taught in the early church. (The other guys just SAY they teach what the early church taught.) For an easy introduction to the timeline taught in The Sign, get Van Kampen's novel The Fourth Reich. |

Review Summary: mainstream christians are being decieved |
Date: 2007-01-04 |

Details: Sadly most mainstream christians would not be interested in this book because:
1. My church dont teach this
2. 'Left Behind' books dont teach this
3. People dont care to read a 530 paged 'contraversial' book
4. most mainstream christians are busy sinning or wasting time with tv
I came across this author through another great book he wrote 'The Rapture Question Answered Plain and Simple' (get it its great)...I found it at a discount bin at a christian book store. Thats right, the good stuff is not at the end cap, its buried in the discount bin.
This book is long because the author has to constantly shoo the pesty flies called Pre trib'ers. You know, the wide gate (Matt7:13). Lots of researched proof shows that 'pre trib rapture' is not in the bible! And the 'Pre Wrath' theory has always been there but history likes to bury the truth. Like that great book in the discount bin.
A wonderful chart poster is included in the latest edition. Those end times bible versus are examined. This author has constantly studied end times and compared scripture with scripture. This book is a gem! Get it look at it! And look at the bible. And get ready, Jesus is coming back to clean up and start over with his righteous children! |
