Description: Although over twenty years old now, this is still a gem of a book for serious ecumenists, theologians and seekers. From the back cover: "It argues that our underatnding and experience of the nature of Christianity have been disasterously impoverished by the deep seperation between Christian East and West. Both elements are necessary if we are to recover the fullness and balance of Christian vision and the effectiveness of Christian action.
Canon Alchin argues that the English tradition in particular has a special though often unrealised and latent closeness to the position of Eastern Orthodoxy."
Liturgy, prayer, sacraments, along with the case studies of Symeon, Ann Griffiths, F. D. Maurice, Underhill, and Lossky.
THis is really top notch stuff, but it is sad that the English Church, in its American face in particular, has so diverged from its own rich heritage, widening the gap between historic Christianity and the trend to throw out dogma and liturgy for political correctness and rainbow antics. May we all be one, however God decides to work that out.
