Description: Amillennialism, dispensational premillennialism, historic premillennialism, postmillennialism, preterism. These are difficult words to pronounce and even harder concepts to understand. A Case for Amillennialism presents an accessible look at the crucial theological question of the millennium in the context of contemporary evangelicalism. This study defends amillennialism as the historic Protestant understanding of the millennial age. Amillennarians believe that the millennium of Christ's heavenly reign is a present reality, not a future hope to come after his return. Recognizing that eschatology, the study of future things, is a complicated and controversial subject, Riddlebarger provides definitions of key terms and a helpful overview of various viewpoints. He examines related biblical topics as a backdrop to understanding the subject and discusses important passages of Scripture that bear upon the millennial age, including Daniel 9, Matthew 24, Romans 11, and Revelation 20. Regardless of their stance, readers will find helpful insight as Riddlebarger evaluates the main problems facing each of the major millennial positions and cautions readers to be aware of the spiraling consequences of each view.

Review Summary: Excellent Book Date: 2008-12-28

Details: Riddlebarger does a great job in refuting dispensational-futurism. He writes on page 153, "The insertion of a gap of at least two thousand years between the sixty-ninth and seventieth week is a self-contradictory violation of the dispensationalist's professed literal hermeneutic. Where is the gap to be found in the text? Dispensationalists must insert it. The failure to acknowledge the obvious covenantal context of the messianic covenant maker of verse 27, who confirms a covenant with many, leads dispensationalists to confuse Christ with antichrist. A more serious interpretive error is hard to imagine." However, Riddlebarger, like the dispensationalists, fails to discern the doctrine of the Antichrist. He, like the dispensationalists, believes in a future antichrist to arrive on the scene. Therefore, this book is in no way a five-star book on eschatology. Riddlebarger does not accept the reformed doctrine of Antichrist. "Wycliffe, Tyndale, Luther, Calvin, Cranmer; in the seventeenth century, Bunyan, the translators of the King James Bible and the men who published the Westminster and Baptist Confessions of Faith; Sir Isaac Newton, Wesley, Whitfield, Jonathan Edwards; and more recently, Spurgeon, Bishop J.C. Ryle and Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones; these men among countless others, all saw the office of the papacy as the antichrist, that is substituting for Christ, the new face of the old paganism that is Mystery Babylon in the Bible. They saw it all in the Scriptures, it was quickened to them. They saw the counterfeit Bride, the Whore which would be judged at the end of history, in the description of Revelation 17, as do so many others today..." writes Michael de Semlyen, in All Roads Lead to Rome? A Case for Amillennialism is a decent book if you are studying the millennium. However, for Bible students seeking the truth about all doctrines of eschatology, The Truth about The Last Days by Anthony Maiolo is a must read.

Review Summary: Amillennialism Date: 2008-12-25

Details: I have found this book packed with very convincing arguments for the amill interpretation. Agree or not, he points out the verses used for the various points of view. Kim has the courage to give his position. Many of the books about end times are factual, lacking any of the authors personal opinions(yea or nay). Encyclopedias full of facts normally don't help the confusion which caused us to read the book in the first place. You may not agree with Kim's opinion, but at least you get the amill side of beliefs.

Review Summary: a new subject for me Date: 2008-12-23

Details: First up, I will say that I am no scholar.

My background was in a pentecostal church.
I remember walking out of a meeting one afternoon, and expressing my disagreements with the speakers thoughts about locusts? and fighter-jets.
My fellow members shot at me a poisoned look :)

I have only recently heard the term, amillennialism.
And I found this book fascinating.

Having moved away from the pentecostal environment a few years ago, and now embracing reformed teaching, I think I can say gladly that amillennialism will lead me to further reading.
Hoekema is next.

Review Summary: Great read - even for Dispensationalists Date: 2008-10-30

Details: Let me say up front I hold a dispensational view when it comes to eschatology, however, I must admit I have not spent much time studying covenant theology. I was challenged by several to consider the other perspective, and so I did a random search on Amazon to find a book which covers the topic. I landed on this one, and I must say it is a very thorough work. The author does a nice job exploring in depth the key passages - Daniel 9, Rom. 9-11, etc. and providing the covenant interpretation. His book answers several questions regarding the covenant perspective. It's presented in layman's terms, and is an easy read.

At the end of the day he has not convinced me to adopt covenant theology, but if you're interested in understanding how key, end times Scriptures are interpreted from a covenant perspecitve, I would highly recommend this book as a starting point.

Review Summary: Good, but not great Date: 2008-09-06

Details: I found "A Case For Amillennialism" to be a good Amillennial treatment of the biblical eschatological issues relating them to both Pre-millennialism and Post millennialism. However, the one big problem was the Author's connection of Amillennialism with Covenant Theology. The author is clearly in the Covenant Theology camp and fails to properly differentiate the two systems at times. One may hold to an Amillennial view point without accepting the viewpoint of Covenant Theology. As one who holds to New Covenant Theology and also holds an Amillennial viewpoint, I would encourage those reading this book to realize this distinction. Overall, however, the author clearly expressed the A-mill position and revealed the exegetical difficulties of the other positions concerning the important eschatological texts and the general flow of scripture.
