Description: It's sad that we need a book to remind us of the importance of scheduling time to rest and worship. But because we can work, shop, achieve, and otherwise stay busy every hour of every day of the week, we do. The statement, "I am so busy" has become a frighteningly common lament, according to author Wayne Muller. Our perpetual state of busyness represents a war on our natural rhythms that demand quiet and renewal in order to be emotionally, spiritually, and creatively fertile. Honoring the Sabbath need not be a commitment to a specific day of the week, explains Muller. In fact, it can be a yearlong retreat or a morning walk--"anything that preserves a visceral experience of life-giving nourishment and rest." Far more than an interesting concept, this is a good read. Each chapter is provocative and fluid, with topics such as "Fear of Rest," "Dormancy," and "The Way of Enough." At the end of his chapters, Muller offers stories, poems, or practices that speak to the themes of the Sabbath. --Gail Hudson

Description: Angels: God's Secret Agents is Billy Graham's one-volume introduction to one of the most popular spiritual phenomena of our time. Firmly grounded in Graham's close readings of scripture, Angels testifies to Graham's own encounters with the heavenly beings and also records the many similar stories that other believers have told him over the years. Graham devotes entire chapters to the questions of whether angels are visible or invisible, how they differ from men and women, and how the angelic hierarchy is organized. He also discusses the much-debated theory that UFO sightings are in fact angelic appearances. Perhaps the primary purpose of this book, however, is to inform readers that armies of angels are ready and willing to help Christians in their daily fights against the forces of darkness. "Millions of angels are at God's command and at our service," Graham writes. "The hosts of heaven stand at attention as we make our way from earth to glory, and Satan's BB guns are no match for God's heavy artillery." Such stirring theological pronouncements are matched with practical advice for believers who wish to know the angelic powers in everyday life. --Kevin Attwood

Description: An unabridged recording of a one-of-a-kind modern fable! Need a lift? The man was gorgeous, sitting astride his Harley Davidson, mysteriously parked on a moonlit strip of sand. At thirty-seven, Christine Moore had a world-class case of burnout: career blues, no husband, no children, an imperfect figure, and dimming expectations. "I'm going to show you a peace so beautiful, you'll probably forget what your life has been like up until now," he said. Who was this guy? "My friends call me Joe. Others call me 'God' or 'Higher Power.' You can call me whatever you're most comfortable with." Right. But he knows everything about her, every one of her heart's desires. A sweet serenity settles over Christine. And so the journey begins, a triumphant odyssey of self-discovery that illuminates our souls. As we join one woman's inspiring quest for healing and life-changing truths, we discover six powerful precepts that offer the deepest peace and fulfillment we can ever know. Every woman longing to experience the joy of loving and of respecting her true self will find comfort, guidance and hope in the simple, profound secrets to an enlightened and enriched new life that Christine learns. In the life-affirming tradition of The Celestine Prophecy, God on a Harley lights the way to a much-needed spiritual home.

Description: In keeping with the first two books in this trilogy, Conversations With God, Book 3 continues to clarify the muddy waters of our spiritual existence, but moves from individual and global issues to "universal truths," which apply to all levels of existence from the microscopic to the macrocosmic. It is difficult to criticize God, but if he is as pleasant as he presents himself in Walsch's books, then he won't mind the paltry mention of a structural problem. A hefty portion of Conversations With God, Book 3 backtracks to topics that were well covered in Book 1, and while a certain amount of recap is good to build on, Walsch's repeated return to these earlier conversations gets a bit frustrating for the reader who is familiar with the earlier books. Minor blemishes aside, Conversations With God, Book 3 explores some of the most fantastic subjects that people are prone to ponder under starry evening skies: What happens when we die? What is time? Are we alone in the universe? Walsch's dialogue with the creator puts these and other imponderables into comprehendible terms. If these revelations are true, and it is ultimately up to us to know them as truths or not, then the universe is a very intriguing place, and we haven't come close to realizing our potential in understanding it. However, the great thing Conversations With God, Book 3 makes clear is that we can understand the universe if we so choose. --Brian Patterson
