Review Summary: I Should have read this years ago
Date: 2008-09-25
Details: I actually saw Neil Anderson speak at my college one semester and recognized him as the guy that wrote "The Bondage Breaker" book that I had seen in my dad's library. I had never read anything by him, and I don't really remember much of what he said. Now, nearly 10 years since I saw him speak I re-discovered his books at a crucial turning point in my life. I read my dad's copy of "The Bondage Breaker" and was so blessed by it that I immediately rushed out to buy "Victory Over the Darkness." I have been immeasurably blessed and strengthened in faith by this book. There is nothing magic to Anderson's approach. It's just the truth of the Bible explained in simple, easy to read language. His personal stories are very encouraging to those struggling with their faith walk. I will be getting my hands on anything Anderson writes. Not that he is so special, but that God has gifted him to explain truth in such a powerful way. I know that this book will bless you as much as it did me.
Review Summary: Spiritual Warfare
Date: 2008-06-13
Details: This is a foundational work for anyone interested in Christian Spiritual warfare. If you're self-image is in tatters or you feel like your spiritual life is being hindered by the enemy, this book will be helpful. It is well documented, integrates biblical scriptures and is very practical. The book is the result of the authors own battle with the enemy and how he is winning. The cover of the book is revealing: A hunched over man in a darker world walking out into the light and straightening up as he does so.
Review Summary: The power of indentity
Date: 2008-05-25
Details: I really want to give this book more than three stars because it is a necessary corrective to many church's teachings that we are all wretched sinners. Anderson uses the scriptures to show us that this is not how God sees us. It is this false conception of ourselves which restrains our Christian growth. However after that good start, this book lacks the practical steps of how to build-up an accurate self-identity. Anderson makes it sound very simple - you simply choose to change your view of yourself and it happens. In reality, this is a process. There is no mention in this book of how fellowship in small groups or accountability partners can be a part of this process. Also, the chapters on unforgivness and marital relationships were off the topic.
