Review Summary: Christians beware - This is a 'no star' review Date: 2008-05-31

Details: If you are a Christian and considering this book, ask yourself this question first. "Where does the Bible tell you to forgive yourself?" Go ahead. Get your concordance or your bible software. I'll wait. Do a search.

That's right. It doesn't. Anywhere.

What does it say? It says that if we confess our sins, He's faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:9)

'I know God forgives me, but I can't forgive myself.' He doesn't tell you to do that. He tells you to believe Him.

God calls Christians to believe that He has forgiven them, and then walk forward in that forgiveness in the power of His Spirit doing what He has told us to do, instead of what we feel like doing.

I don't care what pulpit someone has spoken from. What church they may have pastored, or what radio show they may be on, leading people away from what God says to man's solutions will not achieve the desired result.

Hear the broken heart of a father: " "Woe to the rebellious children," says the Lord, "who take counsel, but not of Me, and who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; who walk to go down to Egypt, and have not asked My advice, to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt, therefore the strength of Pharaoh shall be your shame, and trust in the shadow of Egypt shall be your humiliation." (Isaiah 30: 1-3) He provides the permanent solutions. Man provides Band-Aids. Just as forgiving others of what they have done to us is His solution to bitterness, believing that He has forgiven us sets us free from the guilt and the shame of what we've done.

He loves you and has answers for your life. Believe Him and it will set you free. Don't buy into the psychobabble that tells you to forgive yourself or even worse that you need to forgive God. He sent His Son to die for you that you might have a relationship with Him for eternity. He loves you. Read His love letter to you and believe it.

Review Summary: Helpful book Date: 2008-04-16

Details: This is a great book - very helpful for growth as a Christian. He has a calm organized way of writing, takes up all the relevant points and helps you to understand what has happened, why you resist forgiving yourself, and what to do about it.

Review Summary: Awesome!!!! Date: 2008-03-04

Details: I got this for my dad based on his horrible childhood he experienced. He has only given me rave reviews on this book. My mom had bought the other one on Forgiving Others and said it is fantastic, as well!! Life changing. I think I want to read it now.

Review Summary: We all need to forgive Date: 2008-02-25

Details: Forgiveness is something we must do everyday to live peacefully, however forgiving ourselves is often times the last thing we want or know how to do. This book helps us to understand the dynamics of forgiveness, especially when we have been held captive emotionally from things in our past. Everyone has a "past," it can't be changed, but it can be forgiven enabling us to go forward in our lives. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:14 we must forgive to be forgiven. When we forgive it is for our benefit, not for the one we forgive ( it doesn't mean what they did was ok, but it sets us free). A good read and even better study.

Review Summary: One For All Date: 2008-02-14

Details: It makes no difference whether you consider yourself to be a Christian or not, this is a book that everyone can benefit from reading and living out in their lives. Forgiving ourselves can be the hardest lesson of all to learn and yet it may well be the most important. R.T. Kendall does a masterful job of helping each of us to deal with this all important issue. This easy to read book is written in everyday language that makes even the most complicated issues readily understood. How To Forgive Ourselves Totally is truly "one for all" as each of us can benefit from the freedom found when we truly forgive others, and perhaps even more importantly, when we truly forgive ourselves.
