Description: This comprehensive review presents all modern methods for plant root research, both in the field and in the laboratory. It covers the effects of environmental interactions with root growth and function, and focuses in particular on the assessment of root distribution and dynamics. The processing of root observations, analysis and modelling of root growth and architecture, root-image analysis, computer-assisted tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, are described and discussed. Furthermore, a survey of the application of isotope techniques in root physiology is given.

Description: In recent years nuclear pre-mRNA processing has taken center stage as an important regulator of gene expression and ultimately growth and development. Large-scale genome and cDNA sequencing projects together with bioinformatic analyses of these sequences have revealed that alternative splicing of pre-mRNAs contributes greatly to transcriptome and proteome complexity in eukaryotes. During the last few years, tremendous progress has been made in understanding various aspects of pre-mRNA processing including alternative splicing and its importance in plant growth and development as well as in plant responses to hormones and stresses. This book, with contributions from leading scientists in this area, summarizes recent advances in nuclear pre-mRNA processing in plants. It provides researchers in the field, as well as those in related areas, with an up-to-date and comprehensive, yet concise, overview of the current status and future potential of this research in understanding plant biology.

Description: This textbook, written in 1988 mainly for undergraduate students, is conversational as it attempts to explain the functioning or the evolution of plant structures rather than just name them. To be more understandable, it focuses on the most widely-accepted theories of structure and function. The more peripheral theories are mentioned only where they would help a student understand structure and function. This text contains numerous diagrams, photographs, micrographs (by both light and electron microscopy), but most emphasis is on light microscopy of the types of cells and tissues that an undergraduate student would see in their own Plant Anatomy labs. It covers all tissues and organs of seed plants (all vegetative and reproductive organs) and tries to use familiar plants as examples such that undergraduates could more easily understand what they are reading. Covers fundamental aspects of ferns and lycophytes as part of discussions of the evolution of plant structure but does not cover them in great detail. The glossary too was written to be more conversational, easy for an undergraduate student to understand.
