by Pat Youngdahl

In this book of beautiful and timely reflections, Pat Youngdahl takes us on a spiritual journey that's both tender and fierce, an affirmation of love and a bold new view of divine presence and power.

If you long for more of the savred in your daily life, if you've ever felt disillusioned by religion, if you're struggling with the dogmas of a patriarchal society, if you're disheartended by the spectacular and ordinary violence that pervades our world, this book offers a solace, peace and confidence that together we can create healing pathways to joy and abundance for all.

Description: Leonardo Boff is one of the founders of Liberation Theology. He remains a seminal thinker within Christian Theology. First published in Portuguese under the title, Civilizacao Planetaria, Global Civilisation is a philosophical and theological enquiry into the various elements of the globalisation process, including market forces, politics, military force, technology and science, communication and spirituality. Boff understands that the process of globalisation affects all spheres of human life, and it represents a new phase in human evolution and a new stage for Earth itself. In the present we will walk a difficult path since globalisation represents a 'revolution' in which a number of issues, such as consciousness, the meaning of life, holiness, the economy, politics, culture, work standards and ethics, are being redefined. However, Boff presents a very optimistic future for humankind, as he envisages that the Earth will become the 'true home' for all human beings. The book is divided into two main parts; in the first part Boff deals with the 'Rise of a New Global Civilisation', and in the second part he discusses 'The New World Order and Christianity'.

Description: This survey study of the contrapuntal or negatively critical developments in Western philosophy and theology points out some of the reasons why the new "radical theology" has arisen in our time. Dr. Cooper writes on the radical theology from a "front row seat"-he studied under and wrote his Ph.D. dissertation on Paul Tillich, hailed as the "father" of radical theology; and Mircea Eliade, the subject of much of Thomas J. J. Altizer's writings, was also his professor. In the course of his book, Dr. Cooper investigates most of the developments in modern theology-the so-called quest for the historical Jesus, the struggle between liberalism and fundamentalism, the demythologizing movement, religionless Christianity, the civil rights struggle, and the "death of God" theology. He discusses all of them in connection with the historical influences that brought them into being. Viewing the radical attempts to recover this sense of transcendence (including Teilhard de Chardin's), Dr. Cooper urges that theology should respond positively and constructively to the "death of God" movement, and concludes that our present theological situation is such that "only the most radical attempts to recover the sense of the sacred...have any chance of success." Originally published by Westminster Press in 1967, this edition contains a new preface.
