Description: Collected in 1899 by Epiphanius Wilson, the works in this text are words of praise to the one unknown God, illustrating the spiritual connection between peoples spanning across continents and centuries. This volume includes hymns from the Hindu Vedas, thought to be the oldest sacred texts in the world; the Avesta of the Zoroastrians, from pre-Christian Middle East; the Dhammapada, transcribed words of the Buddha given to provide guidance to men; excerpts from the Upanishads, Indian scriptures meditating on the philosophy and nature of God; selections from the Koran, the words God spoke to the prophet Mohammed that formed the foundation of Islamic faith; and the poetic story of the life of Buddha. Seen together in one place, these holy writing beautifully illustrate the passion of the rich, worshipful tradition of the lands of the East.

Description: It is a widely shared assumption that science and religion are fundamentally opposed to each other. Yet, recent historiography has shown that religious belief needs to be added to the social, economic, political, and other cultural factors that went into the making of modern science. This new collection shows religious ideas not only motivated scientific effort but also shaped the actual content of major scientific theories. The fourteen studies contained in this volume concentrate on such topics as the theological facets of modern astronomy in the works of Galileo, Kepler, and Newton; the retention of teleology in the natural philosophy of Boyle; and the theistic and teleological associations of the modern theory of evolution authored by Darwin and Wallace. While the majority of the contributions focus on the Christian traditions, the collection also contains case-studies of Judaic and Islamic influences.
Reflecting the fecundity of contemporary scholarship, the current volume should be of extraordinary interest to historians of science, scientists, as well as anyone intrigued by the many ways in which relations between religion and science have been constructed.

Description: Can you trust a “God” who can’t know the future? A new theology is trickling down from the lofty halls of academia to the pews of evangelical churches. Called open theism, this novel view of God denies that he fully knows the future and insists that he takes risks by giving humans wide-ranging freedom. This view has disastrous consequences for the everyday faith of ordinary Christians, consequences you can’t afford to ignore. Their God Is Too Small explains some of the beliefs of open theism and shows their practical implications. Using biblical truth and personal anecdotes, Bruce Ware demonstrates how open theism undermines trust in God for everyday life, particularly in the midst of suffering. This is no dry academic discourse; if you care about God’s glory and your confidence in him, then this book is for you because it concerns the everyday issues of faith. “With unassailable logic, compelling exposition, and captivating real-life implications, Ware convincingly demonstrates the theological barrenness of open theism by exposing its major biblical deficiencies.” --John F. MacArthur, Jr., Pastor-Teacher, Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California “Open theism supports its reducing of God’s sovereignty by denying his full knowledge of the future. If any doubt remains as to whether this falls short of the Bible’s teaching and waters down Christian faith and hope, Bruce Ware’s pastoral reasoning will surely dispel it.” --J. I. Packer, Professor of Theology, Regent College “Their God Is Too Small effectively exposes the diminished God of open theism, and in so doing provides pastors with a powerful tool to foster genuine faith in the sovereign, wise, and trustworthy God of the Bible.” --C. J. Mahaney, Senior Pastor, Covenant Life Church, Gaithersburg, Maryland “Confusion about God inevitably leads to confusion about life. Thankfully, Bruce Ware keeps our heads and hearts on track toward an accurate knowledge of God against the backdrop of prevalent distortions.” --Joseph M. Stowell, President, Moody Bible Institute

Description: This is a very literate look at the different religions of the world, detailing and comparing each one and finally arriving at the conclusion that there is only one God. The true God is the God Who created the universe in six days and revealed Himself to the Jewish people and sent His only Son to die for the sins of man.

Description: As every enquiry, which regards religion, is of the utmost importance, there are two questions in particular, which challenge our attention, to wit, that concerning its foundation in reason, and that concerning its origin in human nature. Happily, the first question, which is the most important, admits of the most obvious, at least, the clearest solution. The whole frame of nature bespeaks an intelligent author; and no rational enquirer can, after serious reflection, suspend his belief a moment with regard to the primary principles of genuine Theism and Religion. But the other question, concerning the origin of religion in human nature, is exposed to some more difficulty. The belief of invisible, intelligent power has been very generally diffused over the human race, in all places and in all ages; but it has neither perhaps been so universal as to admit of no exception, nor has it been, in any degree, uniform in the ideas, which it has suggested. Some nations have been discovered, who entertained no sentiments of Religion, if travellers and historians may be credited; and no two nations, and scarce any two men, have ever agreed precisely in the same sentiments. It would appear, therefore, that this preconception springs not from an original instinct or primary impression of nature, such as gives rise to self-love, affection between the sexes, love of progeny, gratitude, resentment; since every instinct of this kind has been found absolutely universal in all nations and ages, and has always a precise determinate object, which it inflexibly pursues. The first religious principles must be secondary; such as may easily be perverted by various accidents and causes, and whose operation too, in some cases, may, by an extraordinary concurrence of circumstances, be altogether prevented. What those principles are, which give rise to the original belief, and what those accidents and causes are, which direct its operation, is the subject of our present enquiry.

Description: The Holy Spirit: Activating God's Power in Your Life by Billy Graham begins with a very simple statement: "Man has two great spiritual needs. One is for forgiveness. The other is for goodness." Graham then affirms that "God heard that first cry for help, that cry for forgiveness, and answered it at Calvary" and that "God also heard our second cry ... and answered it at Pentecost." The Holy Spirit, Graham writes, is "the source of power who meets our need to escape from the miserable weakness that grips us," even after one has given one's life to Christ. "He gives us the power to be truly good." In clear, concise prose, Graham then walks readers through biblical passages that teach about the Holy Spirit. He also describes some related concepts and experiences that are widely misunderstood, such as baptism with the spirit and sins against the Holy Spirit. And he gives readers a solid outline of the signs and fruits of the Spirit (such as love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness). Graham's book may be especially helpful for new Christians, but it will also serve as a helpful reminder to longtime believers. "No person can seek sincerely the cleansing and blessing of the Holy Spirit, and remain the same afterward," Graham promises. This promise is sufficiently grounded in scripture, and offered with such authoritative serenity that many readers will find real comfort here. --Kevin Attwood
