Description: The idea of koinonia has gained prominence in recent ecumenical discussions. Sr. Lorelei Fuchs here proposes koinonia, loosely translated as "communion," as the key to moving the fractured churches toward a future unity. Fuchs challenges churches to go beyond mere dialogue to apply their ecumenical insights at the local level. She begins by relating the exegetical meaning of koinonia to its ecumenical meaning, tracing the place of koinonia both within the churches and between the churches. Fuchs then examines koinonia in the extensive and fruitful dialogues that have taken place between Lutherans, Anglicans, and Roman Catholics, finally articulating a "symbolic competence for communionality" that provides a rich and workable way forward for church unity at all levels. Encompassing the latest in ecumenical thought, Koinonia and the Quest for an Ecumenical Ecclesiology provides a framework for moving closer to the reality of Christ’s prayer "that all may be one."

Description: Universalism and Religions: Quaker Universalist Reader Number 2 Publisher: Quaker Universalist Fellowship Thirty-six Quaker Universalist authors from Great Britain and the U.S. write about "Universalism and Religions". This is the second of a three part collection which includes "Quaker Universalism" and our forthcoming "Universalism and Spirituality". The first chapter, What Is Universalism? is about the concept of universalism - is it about universal salvation, a universal Light, or what? The second, What Is Universal? is about the quest for human universals: do we have a common spirituality, say, or a common set of morals, or common basis of religion? The last three chapters look at universalism and religion, specifically Quakerism, a more orthodox Christianity, and finally non-Christian religions. $16.95 Available from your bookstore or from www.universalistfriends.org

Description: Although the history of the Roman Catholic and Anglican Churches is a long and tumultuous one, Mary Reath believes that the 500-year-old split between these prominent faiths can be healed. Reath, who has worked closely with both the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity in Rome and His Eminence Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, offers her unique and positive perspective on the past, present, and future of these two churches. Particularly at a time of such discontent for both Episcopalians and Catholics, this book is timely and helpful.

Description: Spiritual Leadership in the Global City is a contemporary study of the extraordinary spiritual leaders God has called out to be a sphere of influence in the global city of New York. Recognized voice and spiritual leader Mac Pier has compiled the stories of these leaders and the churches that are collaborating at historic levels to transform lives in the city and the city itself. Engulfed in stories from the mayor’s office to the lesser-known homeless shelters in the Bronx, readers will experience a sense of transformation. Although written primarily for lay and professional church leaders, this book will benefit any believer with a passion for people and transforming lives. It is also appropriate for institutions equipping people to serve and work in the cities. This book looks at the data that enables leadership to thrive within these environments and provides the serious reader with the theology, history, and practice of leadership within the urban context. Through this book, readers will be pointed toward training and educational resources.

Description: According to the author, "In order to understand the present, and move confidently into the future, one must have an appreciation of the past." The book therefore deals, in a non-technical way, with the theology and history of ecumenism, explains the origins of the main Christian denominations, gives a brief history of the World Council of Churches, and introduces some of the current issues. Ecumenical ethics and inter-religious dialogues form the subjects of the two final chapters. The author concludes each chapter with questions for group discussion, and ends the book with suggestions for practical ways in which the ordinary individual can promote ecumenism. Several appendices give useful background information. This book is for the average reader or student of theology who would like to be better informed about ecumenism.
