Description: In this masterful study of the critical issues in missional ecclesiology, Joon-Sik Park reflects on two prominent twentieth-century theologians—H. Richard Niebuhr (1894–1962) and John Howard Yoder (1927–1997)—and integrates the insights of their respective traditions. Although ecclesiology was a major concern to both Niebuhr and Yoder, their views on the nature and calling of the church were distinct. Whereas Niebuhr (a theologian in the Evangelical and Reformed tradition) was concerned with defining the church in relation to a universal community, Yoder (standing within the Mennonite tradition) was interested in representing the church as an alternative community. Although Niebuhr was reluctant to distinguish the church sharply from the world, Yoder stressed the distinctiveness of the church from the world and considered the Christian faith a decisive difference between believing and unbelieving communities. Seeking to construct an integral missional ecclesiology, Joon-Sik Park carefully engages Niebuhr and Yoder and proposes a critical synthesis of their strengths. He holds in creative tension the contradistinctive ecclesiologies of Niebuhr and Yoder by means of Lesslie Newbigin’s logic of election, providing a way to overcome an impasse between the two theologians.

Description: This is a study of marriage litigation in the archiepiscopal court of York (1300-1500) and the episcopal courts of Ely (1374-1381), Paris (1384-1387), Cambrai (1438-1453), and Brussels (1448-1459). All these courts were, for the most part, correctly applying the late medieval canon law of marriage, but statistical analysis of the cases and results confirms that there were substantial differences both in the types of cases the courts heard and the results they reached. Extensive additional material--over 300 pages--can be found on the Cambridge University Press website (www.cambridge.org/9780521877282) in the Resources and Solutions section under the heading "Text and Commentary". This additional material includes Latin quotations from cases, discussions of alternative interpretations, references to primary sources that support the argument and references to the literature on the cases.

Description: The Lost Mode of Prayer Gregg Braden

Learn a Lost Technology to Change the World – and Your Destiny: Is there a forgotten spiritual tool that offers each one of us the ability to heal ourselves, our relationships with others, and even our endangered planet? On The Lost Mode of Prayer, Gregg Braden – the author of the phenomenal book Awakening to Zero Point – examines evidence from both modern science and ancient texts to shed light on a secret lost to humanity in the year 325. This knowledge was relegated to elite priesthoods and mystery schools in the fourth century, leaving a crucial gap in our understanding of the world. Now, through newly translated texts preserved by the authors of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Braden reveals the inner workings of this powerful force sleeping in the mists of our ancient memory – and how to use this "inner technology" to create profound changes in ourselves and those around us.
