Description: Billy Graham wrote Peace with God: The Secret of Happiness in 1953, a time that is often remembered today for its innocence and simplicity. Yet Graham's book, which is essentially an explanation of Christian grace, reminds readers that the stress and anxiety we face today are abiding aspects of the human condition, as challenging in the 21st century as they were in the Eisenhower era. "You are not alone," Graham writes. "All mankind is traveling with you, for all mankind is on [the] same quest. All humanity is seeking the answer to the confusion, the moral sickness, the spiritual emptiness that oppresses the world. All mankind is crying out for guidance, for comfort, for peace."

Graham answers those cries with a comprehensive story of humanity's sin and redemption in the person of Christ. Like a traditional sermon, Peace with God includes three sections that are intended to change the reader's heart: "Assessing the Situation" (of fallen humanity); "Advancing the Solution" (to the problems of sin); and "Applying the Antidote" (of Christian belief and spiritual power). By the end of the book, Graham offers "Peace at Last." His exhortation to believe is powerful and decisive: "It's all yours, and it's free. You don't have to work for it," he explains. At Graham's conclusion, the reader may come to understand that peace and freedom, as much as stress and anxiety, are abiding aspects of the human condition, and really can be found. --Kevin Attwood

Description: The doctrine of the Antichrist is one of the most interesting doctrines found in Scripture, says author Kim Riddlebarger. Unfortunately, it's also one which has been subject to far more speculation than sound biblical exegesis. Until now. Unlike other resources available on the Antichrist, The Man of Sin focuses on Scripture, not contemporary events, to uncover the truth about this mysterious entity. With skilled exegesis Riddlebarger asserts that, contrary to popular speculation, the Antichrist is not a singular individual but a series of beings that will arise to challenge Christ throughout the inter-advental age before culminating in an end-times Antichrist. Backing this claim first in Scripture, Riddlebarger also draws from historical teachings including those of the church fathers, the Reformation, and historic Protestantism, before contrasting this evidence to the sensational interpretations of many contemporary writers. Pastors, teachers, and study groups wanting to understand the doctrine of the Antichrist will find The Man of Sin to be a unique and comprehensive study.

Description: Life without church. It's getting easier to imagine. And maybe you already left. A leaver, then. Committed to Jesus, not an institution. Perhaps you've left your church in spirit, remaining in the pew. Outwardly silent. Secretly bored. In either case, Brian Sanders has a word for you. Out of his own experience as a leaver, Brian distills the complex problem into two viable options: Stay. Remain in your church with the blessing of Christ and in the power of his great vision for the church to come. Take the path of revolutionary leaving. Move purposefully, seeking the kingdom of God that is beyond institutions. Whether Sunday mornings find you alone in a one-bedroom apartment or isolated in a church of thousands, Brian reminds you that the choice is yours. Reform the church that is Christ's. Be it from the inside out, or the outside in.

Description: Could the $50 purchase of an ancient coin by a Rutgers astronomer have unlocked the mystery of the Christmas Star? For years, scientists have looked, with little success, to astronomical records for an explanation of the magical star that guided the Magi to Christ's manger. Intrigued by the image he found on the latest addition to his coin collection, Michael Molnar thought there might be more to learn by looking, instead, at the teaching of ancient astrologers. The author argues that the Star of Bethlehem was not a star at all, but rather a regal portent centring around the planet Jupiter when eclipsed by the Moon. He bases this theory on the actual beliefs of astrologers, such as the Magi, who lived around the time of Christ. Molnar found some intriguing clues to the mystery while researching the meaning of astrological symbols he found on an ancient coin, which bore the image of Aries looking back at a star. He found that Aries was a symbol of Judea at the time, and that ancient astrologers believed that a new king would be born when the Moon passed in front of Jupiter. Molnar wondered, could the coin have been issued as a response to the Great Messianic Portent, the Star of Bethlehem? To match the story of the appearance of the Christmas Star, Molnar also knew the event had to happen when Jupiter was "in the east". Using these criteria and a computer program, he was able to chart an eclipse of Jupiter in Aries on April 17, 6 BC, a day when Jupiter was precisely "in the east", which confirmed his theory. Moreover, he found that a Roman astrologer described the conditions of that day as fitting the birth of a "divine and immortal" person.

Description: Recent Barna research indicates that less than one in ten evangelical Christians hold a biblical worldview. A World of Difference seeks to change this disturbing fact by educating readers on how the Christian perspective is uniquely reasonable, verifiable, and liveable. Author Kenneth Richard Samples faced a profound test of his own belief system during a personal life-and-death crisis. In A World of Difference, he uses nine distinct tests to compare the Christian worldview with current religious and philosophical competitors, including Islam, postmodernism, naturalism, and pantheistic monism. Samples tackles tough issues through this in-depth study of Christianity's history, creed, and philosophical basis. An excellent resource for readers who want their view of life and the world to make sense.
