Description: The book seeks to establish the properly oriented use of the historical-critical method as the mode of ascertaining the sense of the written Word of God. Pastors, preachers, students in biblical disciplines, and scholars will appreciate the discussion of the role of the Bible in Catholic life since Vatican Council II, the discussion that the Biblical Commission devoted to the historical truth of the Gospels, the relation of the historical-critical method of interpreting Scripture to the life of the Church, and a serious discussion of the "senses" of Scripture. The book ends with a tribute to Raymond E. Brown, SS, as a renowned representative of biblical interpretation. Unique aspects of this collection of essays: - Emphasis on the historical-critical method that is often impugned today - Recalling of a Scripture controversy in Rome because of this methodology - Importance of proper biblical interpretation in life of the Church

Description: You Say You Want a Reformation? It is no secret that our world desperately needs change. Politicians know this and use it to collect votes. Journalists exploit it to sell newspapers and magazines. Advertisers, to sell everything else. Each of these groups (and countless others) spend their lives working to convince others that they hold the key to a better country, a better life, a better future. But what exactly is this change we all long for? And how can it ever come about? A Primer on Worship and Reformation proposes that true change begins, not with a process or an idea, but through faithful worship. To witness true global change—true reformation—we must first pray the Lord that we would see worship at the center of life. The truth is that when the Word is faithfully preached, even the gates of hell tremble. When the Psalms are sung, the meek inherit the earth. When the church celebrates at the Lord's Table, those who mourn are comforted. If we learn these lessons and believe them to be true, we will find that through renewed worship God brings change to every facet of our lives.

Description: Reading a translation of any book is just not the same as reading it in its original language and is adequately stated in the phrase "lost in the translation." When-ever a text is translated from one language to another it loses some of its flavor and substance. The problem is compounded by the fact that a language is tied to the culture that uses that language. When the text is read by a culture different from the one it is written in, it loses its cultural context. A Biblical example of this can be found in the Hebrew word tsur which is translated as a rock - "He only is my rock and my salvation, he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved" (Psalm 62:2, KJV). What is a rock and how does it apply to God? To us it may mean solid, heavy or hard but the cultural meaning of the word tsur is a high place in the rocks where one runs to for refuge and defense, a place of salvation. "The Living Words" is an in-depth study into the Ancient Hebrew vocabulary and culture of the Bible replacing the flavor and substance that has been removed from us.

Description: In The Birth of Satan, T.J. Wray and Gregory Mobley explore howand whya rather innocuous Old Testament character morphed into The Titan of Evil. Wray and Mobley guide the reader through subjects ranging from the Old Testament to contemporary belief systems. They begin with an examination of the first glimmers of Satan found in the Bible within the personality of God. They move to a discussion of different views of Satan in the New Testament providing the reader with examples from the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Wray and Mobleys interpretation ends with a look at the modern versions of Satan and how his career still flourishes beyond the pages of the Bible. Engaging and informative, this book rivals Elaine Pagels work on the subject.
