Details: Overall, this is a very helpful survey of the OT. I think the bonuses of this text have been covered so far but I will try to add some highlights.
The chapters and short and concise. For pastoral use, it is a good for quick reference. Remember that the chapters are overviews of each book of the OT placing emphasis on key ideas and events within. This is not a commentary so it does not go verse by verse explanation. I think what should be noted is that this is not a scholarly book by any stretch. The material is solid and good but often the tips of the highlights of each book are hit and nothing more. For what it is, and what it is supposed to be, it's a worthy additional to any pastor's collection.
This book is certainly on the conservative side of the spectrum which is not beat into a person since differing viewpoints are expressed. |

Details: You will enjoy reading this book, it has so many writings to refresh your mind and to enlighten you on what it is all about. Sometimes we avoid it, but it is HIS Story, we say History. There is so much history here that it will bring clarity on many things you have been told. Read it for yourself and see what you have been missing. |

Details: I had to purchase this book for an Old Testament class. It is very dry and not very informational. Despite my interest in the topic, I don't think I will read any of it. Normally I would keep a book like this as a shelf resource, but instead, I'll be returning it for cash back. |

Review Summary: A Survery of the Old Testament - Second Edition |

Details: I have found this book to be estremely informative and ehlpful in my studies. It is obvious that the authors, Andrew E. Hill and John H. Walton, really put a lot of time and effort into this work. The information it contains puts the Old Testament Scriptures into proper perspective and shows it relevance to me as a New Testament believer. I am especially delighted at how the authors present the Old Testament from the vantage point of the geographical setting, incorporating the culture of the time. Consequently, I am able to properly apply the scriptures, without compromising the context, to circumstances in my own time and culture. Two Thumbs up!! |
