Amazon.com Exclusive: A Letter From Carl Amari, Producer of The Word of Promise

Dear Friends,

I am very excited for you all to experience The Word of Promise New Testament Audio Bible. It has been a true labor of love and I’m thrilled that it has finally released.

I would like to take a few minutes to share with you how The Word of Promise came to be. As a young man, I was introduced to and intrigued by recordings of old radio shows. Long before the advent of TV, people were entertained by radio mysteries, comedies and dramas. These stories were presented by actors, complete with sound effects and music enhancing the experience. The imagination, which we have all but forgotten today, was totally engaged.

While in college, I started a company to market these audio gems of the past. In only a few years, Radio Spirits became the largest seller and marketer of classic radio shows in the world.

Then during the filming of Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ I visited the set in Rome. Seeing first hand what Mel was creating, and encountering his vision for the film, made a profound and lasting impression on me.

One night, over two years ago, while reading to my children from the Bible, the vision of a dramatized version of the Bible began to take shape in my heart. Why not engage the powerful medium of audio to impact lives with the Word of God as the radio shows from yesterday impacted me as a child? We could reach more people.

Only a few years later and by the profound grace of God, the combined efforts of an incredibly talented group of artisans have brought forth an audio New Testament that I believe will stand the test of time. I've never been more excited or passionate about a project and I want to thank God and everyone who has touched this in their own unique way...especially you. Savor these eternal words "which will not pass away" and may many blessings be yours as a result.

God Bless,

Carl Amari

Review Summary: Theatrical and Inspiring Date: 2008-11-12

Details: As a devout Christian, I love and revere the Word of God.

This dramatization of the New Testament, though loaded with star power (not all of whom are necessarily Christian), generally strikes just the right balance of reverence and drama. Stacy Keach as Paul is a special standout, and I defy you not to weep as he reads the Pastoral Epistles!

Though occasionally I take issue with Jim Caviezel's line readings as Jesus (he sometimes comes off as uncertain, a quality I doubt Christ Jesus has ever possessed), and though I'm mildly disappointed that Michael York rather than Chris McDonald reads most of Acts (Luke was the author of that book, and McDonald gives voice to Luke elsewhere in the dramatization), "The Word of Promise" has become a special favorite of mine over the past year it has been available. Perhaps it will become a favorite of yours.

Review Summary: Good but not Great audio translation of the New testament. Date: 2008-10-22

Details: I kinda agree with a few other reviews of this product. i hate to give only 4 stars to a positive learning experience of GODS WORD. Overall it is a very good production. My only complaints are these.
1.)Some of the actors chosen are actors not narrators. meaning this. if they are in a movie they can be seen and heard, live out the parts. when you only get audio, most of these actors do not have strong enough voices to carry their parts.
2.)There are no points to tell you where you are in a book. all you get is ex. the narrators says the (book of matthew.) then he say the (book of mark). no chapter or verses are mentioned.
Those 2 are the only things that could of been improved on. i also have purchased the holy bible on cd with john sherberg and james earl jones. this is my favorite. there are some audio mistakes. but both gentlemen have strong narrative voices and there are chapter marks to tell you where you are listening at in each book. please read my other reviews on products i have purchased. and may GOD bless you. declores. as of november 2008, i just finished listening to this set. the book of revelation is worth the price alone of this set. i had to go back and listen to revelation again. i hope they do the book of daniel and some other prophets in the future. stacey keach as john, michael york as the narrator ernie hudson as peter and louis gossett jr as john are the best voices on the set. and louis gossett really steals the show with the dramanization in revelation.

Review Summary: Read the Bible yourself Date: 2008-10-21

Details: With all the cast of actors, music, and sound effects I was expecting to be blown away. Instead, I am finding that the choice of actors to play certain parts just does not seem to be a good match. When they speak you say to yourself, that is not how I would have imagined John the Baptist. Also, I don't feel the actors were putting a lot of effort into the performance. I found myself constantly comparing the performances in this audio production to films like Jesus of Nazareth and The 10 Commandments, no comparison. It was a good attempt, but I would suggest that you read the Bible on your own; you will get more out of it.

Review Summary: The New Testament Comes to Life Date: 2008-10-13

Details: As a conservative Christian layman, I have found this breathes new life into the Scriptures. I was looking for the New Testament on CD and found this dramatic reading of the NKJV. What can I say? Just a reading of the cover will tell you of the great talents involved in this wonderful effort. I came away after listening to the entire set feeling as if I had watched an epic motion picture (and you can't quit; you are compelled to listen to one book after the other). It is not only a great witnessing tool, it is great for Bible study and entertainment. You will receive a blessing! Highly recommmended. P.S. The Book of Revelation is especially dramatic!

Review Summary: Everyone should have the Word of Promise Date: 2008-10-09

Details: The Word of Promise is fun to listen to because of the multimedia production which includes numerous voices and sound effects. I am surprised that I haven't seen any media advertisement on this project. If people knew it was available, they would buy it. Great to listen to in the car.
