Description: Sister Souljah, the hip-hop generation's number one author and most compelling storyteller, delivers a powerful story about love and loyalty, strength and family. In her bestselling novel, The Coldest Winter Ever, Sister Souljah introduced the world to Midnight, a brave but humble lieutenant to a prominent underworld businessman. Now, in a highly anticipated follow-up to her million-selling masterpiece, she brings readers into the life and dangerously close to the heart of this silent, fearless young man.

Raised in a wealthy, influential, Islamic African family, Midnight enjoys a life of comfort, confidence, and protection. Midnight's father provides him with a veil of privilege and deep, devoted love, but he never hides the truth about the fierce challenges of the world outside of his estate. So when Midnight's father's empire is attacked, he sends Midnight with his mother to the United States.

In the streets of Brooklyn, a young Midnight uses his Islamic mind-set and African intelligence to protect the ones he loves, build a business, reclaim his wealth and status, and remain true to his beliefs.

Midnight, a handsome and passionate young man, attracts many women. How he interacts and deals with them is a unique adventure. This is a highly sensual and tremendous love story about what a man is willing to risk and give to the women he loves most. Midnight will remain in your mind and beat in your heart for a lifetime.

Her "raw and true voice" (Publishers Weekly) will both soothe and arouse you. In a beautifully written and masterfully woven story, Sister Souljah has given us Midnight, and solidified her presence as the mother of all contemporary urban literature.

Review Summary: Midnight Date: 2008-12-05

Details: I was a little mislead by the tittle of the book "A Gangsta's Love Story"....it should not have been called that not about a kid....it should be the early days of midnight or something...but overall i really did enjoy the book....it was a very powerful read about discipline, respect, and responsiblity...i enjoyed it. i look forward to reading part two..hope it doesnt take tooo long...

Review Summary: sista soulja book 'midnight' is boring! Date: 2008-12-03

Details: I was so excited when I heard there would be a sequel to the coldest winter ever. I was going to go out and buy that book again so I could remember the characters . And be prepared to read midnight.

Instead when I got to borders I seen the whole set up especially for sista soulja book, midnight. And I wanted to get right into reading it.

I bought the book about five days ago, and usually I would be almost done reading a book. I am about 100 pages in and its soo boring. It seems to unrealistic about how midnight was the sole provider, and picked up his mom from work every night, he traveled all over ny and outside of ny to pick up cash and drop off garments, and this was at the age of 14. So far that's all I've read..
I give this book two thumbs down and I would like to recruit some of my friends so I can use their thumbs and give it more thumbs down!

so does this mean that sista soulja will come out with a book solely baed on one character every year. If so please save us the trouble and don't.

Did p. Ditty write this?

I want my money back. I hope borders accept it

Review Summary: Must Read! Date: 2008-12-03

Details: This was a great book although i was expecting a sequel it is definitely a prequel. I love the views and I think everyone should give this book a read because it opens eyes to the way most young black americans do things. It offers insight on another more positive lifestyle that some of us might want to take a look at (without changing religions of course). The story did get slow at times but overall its a great read and I'd recommend it to everyone. It does mention Santiago a couple times but not by name. If you pay attention to the little details of Vega's boss that's where you will find Santiago.

Review Summary: "Midnight"....I was in total darkness! Date: 2008-12-03

Details: I was very disspointed that this was not a continuation from the "Coldest Winter Ever." I had the impression that it would start from where it ended. To my surprise this is totally different from her last novel. I couldnt' stay focused to continue reading. So, if someone can please enlighten me, that would be appreciated..Please tell me that it gets better...

Review Summary: Disappointed Date: 2008-12-03

Details: I have to say I was really excited when I first heard Souljah was finally coming out with something new. In my option, she is the mother of the urban literature phenomenon. But, when I finally read the book, I found it to be highly disappointing. The book is helmed as the "follow-up" to her urban masterpiece, The Coldest Winter Ever. However, this is not that at all. The book actually is written as the prelude to Midnight. Documenting his families beginning in this country and how he came to be Midnight. I say all this to say that this was not what Is to be expected and I am very disappointed.
