Elmo's always appreciates a hug. View Larger. |
Interactive gestures bring Elmo to life. View larger. | Moving, Talking, Dancing Elmo! Elmo Live! features the furry, bright-red exterior and the big eyes characteristic of the popular Sesame Street character. He features complex actions that give him a life-like quality: His mouth and head move while he talks, sings, and tells stories; he gestures with his arms, and he moves his legs. He even crosses his legs when he sits on the included stool. We found him very easy to play with -- just press his buttons to get him going. Press Elmo's foot and he will sit down on his stool to tell you a story. He even gestures to act out parts of his stories! Squeeze his nose, and he'll make a variety of silly sounds; he'll even ask you if you "have his nose" and ask you to give it back to him. Squeeze his hand, and he'll dance. Elmo even blows kisses, asks for hugs, and says he loves you. He tells jokes, acts ticklish, and more. When he's laid on his back, or if your child doesn't play with him for a while, Elmo will go into a battery-save mode. He'll yawn, say he's tired, and shut down. Just press one of his buttons to get him going again. Interactive Fun for Kids of Many Ages We particularly enjoyed that, unlike some other "talking" toys, Elmo Live! doesn't just spout programmed phrases. Instead, he asks for interaction, and he responds as if your child is responding to him. For example, when he will ask for a hug and then say "thank you" as if he's received one, or he'll say he's ticklish and then will "respond" as if your child is tickling him. This makes an almost magical experience for your child, as if her toy is really coming to life. The wide variety of things that Elmo Live! can do makes him a great toy to grow with your child. Younger children can engage in cause-and-effect play by simply pressing Elmo's buttons to see what he does. Our two-year-old tester was especially delighted with the silly sounds Elmo makes when his nose is squeezed. Understandably, her attention meandered during the somewhat lengthy stories. However, an older child will have the attention span and comprehension skills to appreciate them, as well as the silly jokes that Elmo tells. Tips on Playing with Elmo! Live Elmo makes lots of fun movements and gestures -- the only slight drawback is that his movements generate a somewhat loud, mechanical sound that sometimes interferes with being able to understand what Elmo is saying. He also has to be on a hard, flat surface -- otherwise he has a tendency to fall over. This in itself has a fun effect, however. When he falls over, Elmo asks you to help him back up again, and when he's put back upright, he'll say "thank you." Also, since his nose has to be squeezed with a bit of force to activate him, our two-year-old tester sometimes needed assistance with it. Elmo Live! comes with 6 AA batteries. A Phillips screwdriver is required to replace them. What's in the Box Elmo Live! doll, with 6 AA batteries included

Review Summary: My kid is OBSESSED with Elmo but NOT Elmo live |
Date: 2008-12-05 |
|
| |
Details: My 18 month old could not be more obsessed with Elmo. Elmo was her fourth word. We have a goldfish named Dorothy, her 8th word. She can sing the entire Elmo song. We go to Sea World all the time to see Elmo. We have pics with Elmo, Elmo toothbrushes, Elmo Ride on Plane, Guess what Elmo, and now Elmo live.
Out of everything Elmo, this is her least favorite. I think it is because the operating noise is so loud that she doesn't love it as much. The stories are long for her age, and it's a bit too advanced for her age group. I think 2 1/2- 3 yr olds will love it more b/c they will understand how to interact with it.
I really thought she would go crazy with an Elmo that moves its arms but nope, she is more obsessed with the seat he comes with. It is a cool toy for an older kid. My child, an Elmo authority, doesn't touch this toy. Personally, it doesn't shut up. It drives us a bit crazy when we do start it. Guess what Elmo is a much better toy, a lot cheaper, and she carries him all around.
Elmo live just isn't worth it for her age. When she gets older and might like this toy, I'm sure Fisher Price will have fixed the amazingly loud operating noise. You can't tell in the store but when you get it home, it is suprisingly loud (I can't believe Fisher Price released it this loud.)
I would not buy this toy for any age. I would wait until they improve it. |

Review Summary: Fun at first, Now WON'T WORK! |

Details: My 2 yr old got this for his birthday less than 2 months ago and he really liked playing with it until yesterday when it stopped working properly. Now it won't stand upright and like the other reviewer said, makes a horrible clicking sound. This toy costs alot of money and there is NO reason that it should not work after less than 2 MONTHS! My son was not hard on it and this is the second elmo product that I have purchased that was poorly made. DO NOT BUY THIS! |

Review Summary: Our grandson is going to love this toy! |

Details: I just got this Elmo for our grandson's christmas present. Like most people I have Elmo unpacked to check him out, and he is way cool! I'm 46 and he definitely put a smile on my face. No he's not soft, and of course there is a little function noise, but it's not to bad, and the movements are excellent! My wife will love Elmo's movements and stories when she gets in from the store... Might have to replace the batteries..... Might even end up getting another one for us..... Only bad thing I found is that you really have to squeeze his nose hard for that function to work. I got the original "tickle me Elmo" years ago as a gag gift, and still have him, if my grandson wants soft I'll give that one to him also. |

Review Summary: Cool Idea, BUT..... |

Details: I love the idea and concept for this toy, but is it worth $60?! No. My daughter received this as an early christmas gift. She loves Elmo so she was very happy to get it, and to play with it. There are some problems with the toy, however. The buttons other than the foot are too hard for my 20 month old to push. Also, she can't play with him on the carpet, otherwise he will fall over. You need to have him on a hard floor or table for him to work right. The "chair" is a joke as elmo does not need it and doesn't even sit on it. It's a waste of plastic. Yes, the gears are loud but it doesn't bother me too much. If this toy was $20 I would have given it 5 stars all the way since my daughter loves it. But for $60+ I would expect higher quality than what it is. |
