Description: Exile. Persecution. Torture. The Riveting True Story of One Man’s Escape from the Sudan. By the muddy banks of the Kulo-jobi River, a young Sudanese boy is faced with a decision that will shape the rest of his life. The Bible or the Axe is the dramatic true story of faith tested by fire in war-torn South Sudan. William Ochan Levi, a Messianic believer from an African Hebrew tribal group, grew up as a refugee in the wilderness of Uganda. As a teen he returned to his homeland, only to face persecution, arrest, and torture. His miraculous escape from jihad forces was the first step in an odyssey that ultimately led to a new life in the United States. After meeting with Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, founder of Voice of the Martyrs, William was inspired to found Operation Nehemiah Missions, International. Operation Nehemiah is dedicated to rebuilding the minds, bodies, and spirits of the Sudanese people who have been brutalized by war and persecution. What tools should Christians use to fight the war in Sudan and other Muslim countries—the Bible or the axe? Learn the depths of forgiveness and the power of Christ’s love to triumph in the most desperate of circumstances. If you have a heart for the persecuted Church, don’t miss this book! *** William Levi has written a gripping account of his suffering as a Sudanese under Islamic persecution. He accurately describes the spiritual and physical struggle. —Tom White, The Voice of the Martyrs If you have ever wanted to know the heart of Sudan and the people who have been used of God to, "rebuild the wall," you must read The Bible or the Axe. —Dr. Vic Eliason, Vice President, VCY America Radio Network

Description: At the beginning of the twentieth century the tropes of messianism, apocalypse and redemption, which had been so central to the West's religious formation, seemed spent forces in Germany. Nietzsche had pronounced God as dead and theology seemed to be travelling the same secular route as philosophy. But World War I changed that. This book introduces some of Germany's key thinkers in theology, philosophy, literature and social and political thought through their engagement with these previously discarded concepts. They initiated a new and urgent dialogue between philosophy and theology. This imaginative and innovative collection brings together essays by established scholars on Messiamism, Redemption and Apocalypse in twentieth century German thought. Major theologians such as Barth, Buber, Bonhoeffer, Rahner, Pannenberg and Moltmann are discussed alongside leading intellectuals such as Adorno, Benjamin, Bloch, Heiddeger and Rosenzweig. Literary figures, such as Kafka and George, are also included. The interfaces imply a different way of reading theology and challenge the reader to think what the implications of immanence in a specific philosophical culture are for the theological project. Some of the essays introduce thinkers who are little known to English speaking readers. Others cast new light on more familiar figures. The collection as a whole contextualises German religious and philosophical thought on these crucial topics in very useful ways. The dialogue at work in these pages is a very important one and should be carried further.

Description: In this book you will find the author's (a born Jew) perspective in his search for God's truth and plan regarding mankind's eternal salvation. The author clearly presents the following: * Overwhelming evidence of God's existence. * A clear explanation as to why the Bible is the true word of God. * Why Jews and Gentiles should read the Old and New Testaments. * God's redemptive plan is for Jews and Gentiles alike. * Through all of recorded history only Jesus of Bethlehem fulfills the messianic prophesies that are found written in the Old and New Testaments. No one even comes close! * A Jew can believe that Jesus is the seed of Abraham, the Son of God and remain a Jew forever.

Description: Here is a fascinating and unusual addition to the acclaimed Classics of Western Spirituality™series. Abraham Miguel Cardozo (1627-1706) was born to a Marrano family in Spain and raised as a Catholic. After fleeing Spain at age 22, he returned to Judaism and educated himself in rabbinics and Kabbalah. A physician by trade, Cardozo became a believer in the self-proclaimed Messiah Sabbatai Zevi. In later years he thought himself a truer Messiah, one who would redeem the Jewish people and the entire world. A subtle and lucid theologian, Cardozo combined rabbinic learning, his Catholic training and a budding awareness of Eastern religions into a remarkable theory of comparative religion that he set forth in his treatise, This Is My God and I Will Praise Him, which appears in its entirety here. Included as well are slightly abridged texts of his apology for Sabbatai Zevi's apostasy (Epistle to the Judges of Izmir), and his lengthy autobiographical letter written near the end of his life, and the magical and messianic portions of his treatise Israel, Holiness to the Lord. An introduction provides rich background information on Cardozo's life and travels, and the meaning and context of his writings. Never before translated into English, or any language, Cardozo will hold great appeal for persons interested in Judaism, mysticism and early modern history, as well as for spiritual seekers, particularly those looking for some unorthodox variant of their current tradition.

Description: Not Ashamed: The Story of Jews for Jesus chronicles the exciting birth and development of this high-powered evangelistic movement. Historian Ruth Tucker presents an unbiased, clear perspective on the fresh band of youthful zealots who, led by Martin "Moishe" Rosen, took to the streets of San Francisco in the early 1970s to win their world for Christ. Their compelling sidewalk evangelism and "broadsiding" of passersby with pointed, self-published tracts, produced massive conversions in the "Jesus People" era, and almost immediate conflict with Orthodox Jewish church leaders, who held that no one could be a Christian and a Jew at the same time. Fascinating reading!
