Details: We bought this map to help us drive from Kota Kinabalu to Park HQ at Mt. Kinabalu National Park, in Sabah. Initially it seemed like a fairly easy proposition, a couple of hours along major highways. However, for the metropolitan area around Kota Kinabalu, this map has no detail whatsoever. The map resolution is so coarse as to be misleading. We got lost for 40 minutes, then ended up finding our way to our destination using dead reckoning --- checking the direction of the sun and using our odometer to figure out how far we'd gone in any given direction.
This map has an inset for downtown Kota Kinabalu. However, we found that it was less useful than the cartoonish, not-to-scale, commercial map of downtown Kota Kinabalu that the rental company gave us for free. The rental company's map was more detailed.
I don't know if a better Borneo road map exists out there. I sure hope so. I would certainly look hard for a better one if I were traveling to Borneo again.
