Description: In the lowlands of the Pacific Northwest, from southern Oregon to British Columbia, the plant and animal life is rich and vast. Previously anyone interested in identifying and learning about the fauna and flora has had to consult a different book for each life form: a tree book for the Pacific yew, a wildflower guide for Indian pipe, and some other reference for garter snakes. In this guidebook, Eugene Kozloff has compiled a general natural history of the region, including about 450 species of plants and animals. In order to be as thorough as possible and still preserve the portability of the book, the author has included those species that are fairly common, widely distributed, and can be easily identified by nonspecialists. This book is substantially complete for trees, shrubs, vines, major wildflowers, ferns and fern allies, and amphibians and reptiles. A few especially abundant or conspicuous mammals are discussed, and there are helpful suggestions for beginning the study of birds of the region. Also included is a wide selection of mosses, liverworts, and lichens, as well as the more common snails, slugs, millipedes, centipedes, and certain other invertebrates.

Description: No longer just a bland square of pressure-treated lumber nailed to the back of the house, decks have taken on new shapes, surfaces, and levels. And patios have evolved from dull slabs of poured concrete to encompass a wide range of forms and materials - from warm brick to chic bluestone to casual gravel. Taunton's Deck and Patio Idea Book is a photographic exploration of the possibilities for these spaces, and the features that define them, including railings, built-ins, and overhead structures. Hundreds of photos depict the full spectrum of styles and sizes, from the simple wraparound deck, to the curved, multilevel redwood deck with outdoor kitchen; from the small brick patio to an elaborate series of terraced patios with stone walls.

Description: Tricia Guild is known for her bold and original fabric and wallpaper collections. Following the success of her many books on color and pattern, she shares her long-standing fascination with using flowers in interior design—taking inspiration from her own garden as well as from all over the world to create stylish, sophisticated interiors. She draws on examples from her own designs where flowers have an enormous impact on the energy and mood of a room—whether it is a series of maroons and purples to amplify the sense of luxury in a dark and cozy boudoir or a collection of single stemmed red dahlias in vintage 1950s vases to inject urban drama and whimsy into a neutral minimalist living room. Included are hints and tips on designing a room with flora along with Tricia’s own flower care guide. With stunning, original photography and a text rich in insights from her own experience, this is a must-have compendium for anyone interested in contemporary interior design.
