Description: Catalysis is central to the chemical industry, as it is directly or involved in the production of almost all useful chemical products. In this book the authors, present the definitive account of industrial catalytic processes. Throughout Fundamentals of Industrial Catalytic Processes the information is illustrated with many case studies and problems. This book is valuable to anyone wanting a clear account of industrial catalytic processes, but is particularly useful to industrial and academic chemists and engineers and graduate working on catalysis. This book also:- Covers fundamentals of catalytic processes, including chemistry, catalyst preparation, properties and reaction engineering.
- Addresses heterogeneous catalytic processes employed by industry.
- Provides detailed data on existing catalysts and catalytic reactions, process design and chemical engineering.
- Covers catalysts used in fuel cells.

Description: What use is physical chemistry to the student of biochemistry and biology? This central question is answered in this book mainly through the use of worked examples and problems. The book starts by introducing the laws of thermodynamics, and then uses these laws to derive the equations relevant to the student in dealing with chemical equilibria (including the binding of small molecules to proteins), properties of solutions, acids and bases, and oxidation-reduction processes. The student is thus shown how a knowledge of thermodynamic qualities makes it possible to predict whether, and how, a reaction will proceed. Thermodynamics, however, gives no information about how fast a reaction will happen. The study of the rates at which processes occur (kinetics) forms the second main theme of the book. This section poses and answers questions such as `how is the rate of a reaction affected by temperature, pH, ionic strength, and the nature of the reactants? These same ideas are then shown to be useful in the study of enzyme-catalysed reactions.

Description: Chemical Kinetics and Catalysis is a comprehensive guide to chemical kinetics and catalysis, and focuses on the use of computational tools for studying chemical kinetics and catalytic phenomena. Provides a thorough and up-to-date treatment of chemical kinetics and catalysis, combining traditional background information with the latest computational methods for fitting data to appropriate rate equations. Demonstrates how the vastly improved computational tools now available allow application of kinetic concepts to understanding and predicting the behavior of diverse and complex phenomena, including biological systems, semiconductor growth, and corrosion. - Contains chapters reviewing of kinetic concepts, introducing kinetics via rate equations and mechanisms, explaining the theory of reaction rates (a section on trajectory calculations to simulate reactions), predicting potential energy surfaces (methods for directing the reaction rate), and discussing catalysis with a focus on modifying the reaction rate.
- A useful reference guide, providing the essential basics along with numerous solved examples, problems, and illustrative computer programs.

Description: Edited by two of the experts in the field, the central aim is to show organic chemists working in process development that enantioselective catalysis is suitable for the large-scale production of enantioenriched intermediates. In so doing, it is equally a source of information and inspiration for academic research, and, with its contribution by Noble prizewinner W. S. Knowles, will also heighten the status of industrial catalyst specialists working in the exciting field of enantioselective catalysis. Some 25 contributions from top industrial researchers around the world present case studies on the development of the widest possible range of large-scale enantioselective processes, featuring stereoselective production processes of fine-chemicals, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. Clearly structured according to the nature of the task, this handbook adopts a problem-driven approach such that readers can easily find how colleagues have dealt with a similar situation.

Description: This much-needed resource brings together a wealth of procedures for the synthesis and practical use of diazocarbonyl compounds. It features methods for the preparation of important catalysts and for applications of diazocarbonyl compounds within each of the main transformation categories-including in-depth coverage of cyclopropanation, C-H and X-H insertion, Wolff rearrangement, ylide formation, aromatic cycloaddition and substitution, and many other useful reactions. Written by leading experts in the field, this book contains cutting-edge material on highly enantioselective transformations, and presents new ways of thinking about diazocarbonyl compounds and their applications, from donor-acceptor cyclopropanes in organic synthesis to macrocyclic cyclopropanation. Complete with illustrative examples of procedures in each chapter, clear diagrams, and a detailed bibliography, this practical reference gives readers the tools they need to put diazocarbonyl compounds to work for their own projects-an invaluable source of guidance for synthetic organic chemists, chemical scientists, and advanced students.
