Description: This book presents a comprehensive treatment of electromagnetic analysis and design of three critical devices for an MRI system - the magnet, gradient coils, and radiofrequency (RF) coils. Electromagnetic Analysis and Design in Magnetic Resonance Imaging is unique in its detailed examination of the analysis and design of the hardware for an MRI system. It takes an engineering perspective to serve the many scientists and engineers in this rapidly expanding field.Chapters present:oan introduction to MRIobasic concepts of electromagnetics, including Helmholtz and Maxwell coils, inductance calculation, and magnetic fields produced by special cylindrical and spherical surface currentsoprinciples for the analysis and design of gradient coils, including discrete wires and the target field method oanalysis of RF coils based on the equivalent lumped-circuit model as well as an analysis based on the integral equation formulationosurvey of special purpose RF coilsoanalytical and numerical methods for the analysis of electromagnetic fields in biological objectsWith the continued, active development of MRI instrumentation, Electromagnetic Analysis and Design in Magnetic Resonance Imaging presents an excellent, logically organized text - an indispensable resource for engineers, physicists, and graduate students working in the field of MRI.

Review Summary: More need for books on NMR hardware design
Date: 2007-02-10
Details: The book "Electromagnetic Analysis and Design" by Jianming Jin is one of the very few books that covers hardware aspects of NMR. The book gives a clear overview of the theory behind the design of both gradient coils and rf coils. What I missed somehow in the book is a more hands-on approach and references on how to really start designing one's own NMR coils.
Review Summary: Excellent book for beginners.
Date: 2000-10-05
Details: I bought this book and found it worth the price. This book is very convenient to use. It has the basic theories, and a lot of good references which may take me so much time to find by myself.
Review Summary: Excellent guide to design and analysis a coil in MRI
Date: 2000-04-08
Details: In spite of the importance of a coil in MRI, such as gradient and RF coil, there are few books on it. So many books on MRI. But they have been focused only on the imaging method or the basic principles of MRI.
This is the only guide book on RF and gradient coil, as I have found, and deals with current topics on the analysis and design on the hardware of MRI. Also, the references on each topics are well arranged and very useful.
