Description: This title is the classic communist party manifesto which started this one and a half decade political movement. The seven rarely published prefaces, mostly written by Frederick Engels after the death of Karl Marx, are included making this publication the complete communist manifesto. Although this title is known as one of the most famous left-wing propagandist publications, it serves as a lesson for thos of all political philosophys. The Communist Manifesto should be required reading when studying political science, radicalism and radical political thought.

Review Summary: For All the Hype, a Little Thin!!! Date: 2008-11-27

Details: For all the hype, you know, this essay doesn't actually say all that much. The best advice in the whole thing is not to get married or believe in any sort of organized religion. The real dope is to be found in `Das Kapital' which is about as easy a read as anything by Kant. It is a must-read, I guess, since most `experts' agree that Marx, Freud & Einstein were the three most influential (white) people of the last century. I'd include Gandhi too, personally, & Mao (evil bastard, but 30 million dead does amount to an `influence').
Don't get me wrong, I dig Socialism, on a theoretical, let's never try this for real, folks, level. I'm an Anarchist myself, er, a Thoreauian Anarchist: personally I believe the best government is that which governs the least (`Walden') though I guess nowadays it should be changed to `the corporation which governs the least.' All the historical mumbo-jumbo & endless references are antiquated & anachronistic nowadays. I would recommend Spengler's `Decline of the West' for some real interesting reading about economics & the fall of `civilized society.' If I haven't stolen it from your local public library, check it out.

Review Summary: My Review Date: 2008-11-18

Details: I wanted to read this book for a couple of reasons. One is that I wanted to get a better understanding of communism and other economic and political theories that were influenced by it or related to it in someway. I also wanted to compare the modern United States and it's history to The Communist Manifesto. I think everyone in the U.S. should read it. It is not very long and is easy to read. I was very pleased with amazon.com the price was perfect and it got to me in a timely manner. ***(I am not a communist but I gave it four stars because it helped me to better understand my own government and I was happy with Amazon.com as usual.)***

Review Summary: Never have so many extrapolated so much out of so little. Date: 2008-06-18

Details: A concept born in a simpler time used as an excuse for many things from Socialism to controlled capitalism. As with any pivotal work one should read it for his/her self. There is always the chance of misinterpretation by an individual, but if you do not read this then you are just accepting someone's word anyway.
This is more than an economics book it is a way of life. It sounds good on paper but makes a lot of assumptions. Instead of worrying about workability, look at the logic that is built on assumptions of that time (written, in 1848). Add this to your library.

You can pick a side (pro or con) and make a stand if you like; but look at the size of this book and realize that many people will just use the title and build their own case. You will have read the real thing. And be sure to balance it with. "The Capitalist Manifesto" by Louis O. Kelso

The Capitalist Manifesto ~ by Louis O. Kelso

Review Summary: Enlightening Date: 2008-06-13

Details: Short, conscise, easy to read, and thought provoking. This manifesto sums up the communist credo in just a few short pages. It gave me a better understanding of where the communist philosophy orginated--necessity.
