Description: "If a martian landed in America and set out to determine the nation's official state religion, he would have to conclude it is liberalism, while Christianity and Judaism are prohibited by law.
Many Americans are outraged by liberal hostility to traditional religion. But as Ann Coulter reveals in this, her most explosive book yet, to focus solely on the Left's attacks on our Judeo-Christian tradition is to miss a larger point: liberalism is a religion—a godless one.
And it is now entrenched as the state religion of this county.
Though liberalism rejects the idea of God and reviles people of faith, it bears all the attributes of a religion. In Godless, Coulter throws open the doors of the Church of Liberalism, showing us its sacraments (abortion), its holy writ (Roe v. Wade), its martyrs (from Soviet spy Alger Hiss to cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal), its clergy (public school teachers), its churches (government schools, where prayer is prohibited but condoms are free), its doctrine of infallibility (as manifest in the "absolute moral authority" of spokesmen from Cindy Sheehan to Max Cleland), and its cosmology (in which mankind is an inconsequential accident).
Then, of course, there's the liberal creation myth: Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.
For liberals, evolution is the touchstone that separates the enlightened from the benighted. But Coulter neatly reverses the pretense that liberals are rationalists guided by the ideals of free inquiry and the scientific method. She exposes the essential truth about Darwinian evolution that liberals refuse to confront: it is bogus science.
Writing with a keen appreciation for genuine science, Coulter reveals that the so-called gaps in the theory of evolution are all there is—Darwinism is nothing but a gap. After 150 years of dedicated searching into the fossil record, evolution's proponents have failed utterly to substantiate its claims. And a long line of supposed evidence, from the infamous Piltdown Man to the "evolving" peppered moths of England, has been exposed as hoaxes. Still, liberals treat those who question evolution as religious heretics and prohibit students from hearing about real science when it contradicts Darwinism. And these are the people who say they want to keep faith out of the classroom?
Liberals' absolute devotion to Darwinism, Coulter shows, has nothing to do with evolution's scientific validity and everything to do with its refusal to admit the possibility of God as a guiding force. They will brook no challenges to the official religion.
Fearlessly confronting the high priests of the Church of Liberalism and ringing with Coulter's razor-sharp wit, Godless is the most important and riveting book yet from one of today's most lively and impassioned conservative voices.
"Liberals love to boast that they are not 'religious,' which is what one would expect to hear from the state-sanctioned religion. Of course liberalism is a religion. It has its own cosmology, its own miracles, its own beliefs in the supernatural, its own churches, its own high priests, its own saints, its own total worldview, and its own explanation of the existence of the universe. In other words, liberalism contains all the attributes of what is generally known as 'religion.'" —From Godless

Review Summary: Fun read, but... |

Details: Ann Coulter is a wonderfully engaging writer whom you just can't ignore. Please understand that I am not a fan of hers and I'll explain why below. However, I think she had two aims in writing this book. The first was to enrage liberals. The second was to bring joy to the hearts of her supporters. With Godless, she succeeded brilliantly in achieving those two aims.
If you enjoy Ann already, you'll love this book. Guaranteed! If you loathe her, then nothing in this book will cause you to change your mind about her. While I find her entertaining, she falls into the old trap of blaming other people or groups for problems. It's a technique that's been used throughout history.
Hitler blamed the Jews for Germany's problems. Donald Rumsfeld blames critics of the war in Iraq for the problems there. I could go on, but I think you get the picture. Instead of blaming liberals, I'd far rather see her wit used to develop solutions instead of sarcasm. |

Details: You would expect to see Ms. Coulter write this type of book, but she really nails the liberal left with facts and her sharp sharp wit. Anyone with an open mind who reads the chapters on evolution has to doubt the validity of today's pop science "evidence". Don't take my word for it, read it yourself. If you have at least two neurons firing it will make you think. |

Review Summary: This book really sparked my interest and got me focused on a lot of issues. |

Details: Ann Coulter is an incredible author. In this book, you will get a perspective that you will not get anywhere else. For one thing, few people have been as willing as Ms. Coulter to expose liberal tactics such as dressing up pitiful victims to advance liberal causes. I was not aware of that prior to reading her book, but after reading this, it makes intuitive sense. It is not possible for a normal person to advance liberal causes because the beliefs and policies just do not make sense. However, if one sends out someone who is a "victim"--such as Cindy whatever her last name is--then it is possible that their anti-war and other liberal comments have some credibility. Ann Coulter is essentially saying, let's discuss issues on the merits, not based upon some person with whom the public may sympathize with. I also heard some original comments on evolution that I have yet to hear anywhere else. This book has certainly sparked my interest in learning more about what progress we have made on learning about evolution and whether there is real proof to the theory. |

Review Summary: Brilliant insights and great writing |

Details: Ms. Coulter is very very good at what she does. All the proof you need are the outraged reviews from the dimwits below, most of whom obviously did not even read the book. That didn't stop the irrational ideologues from writing reviews of the book.
I am an atheist. Needless to say I was shocked to learn of the very real scientific problems with evolution. Obviously I am not buying the "intelligent design" or "god did it" argument, but any honest student can't help but learn a lot about the disease of "politically correct" science in this book.
Ms. Coulter is a very good writer. Even if you disagree, and obviously there are a few who do so, her writing is compelling. She makes powerful arguments that are very well documented.
To say the least I was taken back by her chapters on evolution. I now have to return to my own research on the subject that I thought was settled. That is a sign of a good book.
Of course you could simply reject her very well done arguments on evolution or more substantively on politics in general because they don't fit your preconceived notions. That seems to be the approach of many reviewers.
But if you are serious about learning both sides of significant issues, then you should be reading Ann Coulter's books. Compared to the unsubstantiated semi-literate drivel that comes from the pens and mouths of her critics like Franken or Maher, you will actually learn something from Coulter. Her books consist of systematic fact-supported arguments, not the repetitive nonsensical cant, platitudes and cliches of her critics.
For proof, you don't have to look any further than the numerous semi-literate reviews of GODLESS here on Amazon. |

Review Summary: Sorry Liberals - Another HUGE Bestseller for Ann |

Details: Name calling liberals, dust off your limited vocabulary for this one, because you're likely to break the keys on your computer you'll need to spell out "BIGOT" and "HATE MONGER" and "FASCIST."Problem is, you can't factually refute her precise analysis of the moral underpinnings (and lack thereof) of modern liberalism. Antonin Scalia talks about his faith and liberals call it "dangerous," but Ruth Bader Ginsburg talks about hers and she's got character and is inspiring. Bush is mocked for evoking God, which liberals like Madeline Notat Albright calls "troubling," but Jesse Jackson or Jimmy Carter talk about God and they are revered as consciences of the country. Problem is, liberalism is the ideology of abortion, euthanasia, the death of marriage, pornography and religious dialogue being banned and pushed out of main stream society. Those are facts, folks.I think I'm going to apply for a federal grant to research whether there is ANYTHING that liberals are not hypocrites about. |
