Details: The sermons within are extremely helpful as models for how to shape one's own unique voice when within the pulpit. The difference in all of the sermons and they are extremely good sermons shows that there is no one way to preach, to deliver a sermon, or how the sermon should be shaped. Professor Long is to be thanked for this good volume, which if read thoroughly and consulted will be an encouragement for the pastor who mounts the pulpit 52 Sundays a year. |

Details: This is a great collection of sermons - great variety, great depth, great insights, so good that it leaves me yearning for more.
The editors added value by providing us with pointed and precise introductions that guide us through the techniques and strcutures of the individual sermons that greatly enhances our appreciation of them.

Details: Where else might you find sermons by Karl Barth, Barbara Brown Taylor, Buechner, John Claypool, William S. Coffin, Fred Craddock, Both Buttricks, Gardner Taylor, plus two by Harry Emerson Fosdick? Sermons on, A Sprig Of HOPE, Blindness, Fundamentalists, Laughter, Life As A Gift, Death of Two Sons, Holy Angels. I have only 10-12 collections of sermons on my bookshelf. This neat one, full of examples, surpasses all of them! From challenging to persuasive, to stem-winding! From Doug Nelson's "Raging Faith" to Steimle's exciting, "Eye of The Storm" to Dr. Fosdick's lengthy, "Shall Fundamentalists Win?"
