Description: Ministerial Ethics provides both new and experienced pastors with tools for sharpening their personal and professional decision-making skills. The authors seek to explain the unique moral role of the minister and the ethical responsibilities of the vocation and to provide "a clear statement of the ethical obligations contemporary clergy should assume in their personal and professional lives." Trull and Carter deal with such areas as family life, confidentiality, truth-telling, political involvement, working with committees, and relating to other church staff members. First published in 1993, this edition has been thoroughly updated throughout and contains expanded sections on theological foundations, the role of character, confidentiality, and the timely topic of clergy sexual abuse. Appendices describing various denominational ministerial codes of ethics are included.

Review Summary: Excellent! Should be required reading for ministers of all levels Date: 2008-02-29

Details: This book excellently describes ethics in decision making and reveals ethical principles in the Bible that every minister of any degree should be required to read. I read this due to a class required by the North Carolina District of the Assemblies of God and have heard from several senior pastors that the guidance found in this book would save many a pastor from making ignorant mistakes in leadership.
Why is this needed for Christian leaders who should be moral already? Because this book reveals that people with good morals can be ignorant of unethical behavior which effects their leadership and those who follow them.

Review Summary: Needs to be Taught to All Pastors Date: 2006-11-10

Details: This book needs to be taught to everyone who is called into the ministry.

Review Summary: A sober and committed in-depth discussion Date: 2004-05-18

Details: Written by the editor of "Christian Ethics Today" and by a veteran pastor of thirty years' experience, Ministerial Ethics: Moral Formation For Church Leaders is now in its second edition. Chapters address critical issues such as moral choices that confront a minister, interactions with colleagues and congregations, the thorny and deleterious issue for clergy sexual abuse, and much more. A sober and committed in-depth discussion of serious matters.
