Review Summary: Here Is a Wonderful Plate of Spiritual Finger-Food |
Date: 2008-11-26 |

|
Details: Two men express Christian thought that get my mind running: C.S. Lewis and Oswald Chambers. Meant as a daily devotional, this book is brilliant in its arrangement and content. (When I first opened it, I deserted any hopes of reading only one a day and read many a day.) You can't go wrong in purchasing this one. |

Review Summary: Only devotional I've EVER been able to keep (going on 5 years) |

Details: This devotional is the AMAZING. Each day is interesting, introspective, and super encouraging (in most cases)... I mean, it's CS Lewis, at his best, and segmented in such a creative & perfect way that after 2 or 3 days you'll be excited to read it. When I miss a few days, I gladly read back all the others.
If you're an interesting person, and have a mediocre IQ or better, this will be the most interesting devotional you'll ever use! I highly recommend it! |

Review Summary: A Wonderful Devotional Resource |
Date: 2008-01-28 |
|
| |
Details: Taken from a number of his most widely read works, A Year with C.S. Lewis, is a wonderful resource for Christians to consider many of the theological points of their faith in small nuggets upon which they can chew and digest without becoming overwhelmed.
I have been using this book for my lunchtime devotional reading and have found, without fail, that each day's reading is thought provoking and insightful. I have found the passages taken from "The Problem of Pain" and "A Grief Observed" to be the most compelling on a personal level.
What the reader will not find here is the sort of light, relentlessly optimistic writing often seen in devotional literature nor will he or she find a short bit of Scripture quoted and then expounded upon by some selection of Lewis' writing. Instead, what I have found are selections chosen for their ability to pierce cliches and platitudes and engage the reader's intellect both authentically and without pretense.
I strongly recommend this compilation for those who would like to go deeper into their own faith during their devotional times. |
