Description: The scriptures and modern prophets together proclaim a solemn message for those living in the Saturday evening of time; mankind must repent and serve God or more severe judgments than the earth has ever known in its history will be poured out upon them! Inspired Prophetic Warnings is a carefully documented sudy of that warning message. It draws from a broad array of prophetic statements made by inspired prophets, both ancient and modern, integrating their messages so the many interwoven themes are easily understood. The prophecies are grouped, correlated and summarized to show their interrelationships. Penetrating insights are revealed through this means. Numerous prophecies not readily accessible from other sources are included. This book shows that men must believe in God and serve him if they are to reap his blessings. Many of the recorded prophecies are specifically directed to the people of America. They warn that if the inhabitants of America turn to wickedness, fight against Zion, or allow secret combinations to spread, this great nation will be destroyed. Also contained are warnings of severe persecutions to be heaped upon the Saints in the last days. The prophecies found in the book warn of a third world war, a fourth world war, and a period between them of world-wide anarchy and chaos. Visions of judgments by famine, sword and pestilence are recorded and described. The prophecies warn that iternational strife and distress will continue through the great Battle of Armageddon. Of particular value is the section of choosing a personal course for the future. Words of counsel, revealed over the years, are applied to help the Saints maintain their spiritual and temporal stability as the judgments of the last days are poured out. The book continues the warning message of the author's earlier classic, Prophecy - Key To The Future, and features almost all new material not contained in that earlier work. Solidly based in the scriptural doctrines of the Church, Inspired Prophetic Warnings will have a broad impact. Its timely message is valuable to all who prepare for the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the events prophesied to precede his advent.

Description: A companion volume to their massive bibliography "Studies in Mormon History", 1830-1997, this descriptive history by a team of top Mormon scholars provides a comprehensive view of how the writing of Mormon history has evolved since the establishment of the church. "Mormon History" offers an interpretive survey of Mormon historical writings, from the partisan and often ephemeral history of the nineteenth century through the shift in the first half of the twentieth toward a more balanced and professional approach and an emphasis on how the Mormons helped settle the American West. Since World War II the 'new Mormon history' has focused on broadening the base for understanding Mormonism's history rather than on resolving questions about religious 'truth'.In addition to laying out Mormon historiography, "Mormon History" examines Mormon biography and autobiography and discusses social science literature on the Mormons, including historical and contemporary studies of social geography, rural sociology, and agricultural economics. Two valuable appendices round out this volume, one on the development and nature of Mormon imprints, the other on conducting historical research in Mormon sources. Taken together, "Mormon History and Studies in Mormon History", 1830-1997 represent a milestone in recording, cataloguing, and assessing historical interpretations of the LDS church. They are sure to become the tools of choice in conducting research on the Mormons and Mormonism.

Description: The “seminal book on the story of Jonestown” (Associated Press) is restored to print for the thirtieth anniversary of the Jonestown massacre, with a new preface by the author.
After many years, one of the most widely sought out-of- print books is newly available: Raven reveals the complete, shocking story of Jonestown, providing the definitive account of the worst cult tragedy in American history.
Tim Reiterman’s PEN Award–winning work explores the ideals-gone-wrong, the intrigue, and grim realities behind the Peoples Temple and its implosion in the jungle of South America. Raven clarifies historical misperceptions regarding the character and motives of Jim Jones; the reasons why people followed him; and the important truth that many of those who perished at Jonestown were victims of mass murder rather than suicide.
Here is the unparalleled record of a catastrophe the world still struggles to comprehend.

Description: It is unparalleled in history, the procession of Latter-Day Saints pushing handcarts from Iowa City and Florence (Omaha) to their promised Zion by the Great Salt Lake. Many of the three thousand hardy souls who trudged across thirteen hundred miles of prairie, desert, and mountain from 1856 to 1860 were European converts to the Mormon faith. Without funds for wagons and oxen, they carried their possessions in two-wheeled carts powered and aided by their own muscle and blood. Some of the weary travelers would finally be welcomed by their brethren in Salt Lake City; others would go to wayside graves or get caught in early winter storms in the Rockies and hope to be rescued by the parties sent out by Brigham Young. The migration is described in Handcarts to Zion, which draws on diaries and reports of the participants, rosters of the ten companies, and a collection of the songs sung on the trail and at "The Gathering." LeRoy R. Hafen and Ann W. Hafen dedicated the book to his mother, Mary Ann Hafen, who wrote about the long journey in Recollections of a Handcart Pioneer of 1860: A Woman’s Life on the Mormon Frontier, also a Bison Book.

Description: This witty, caustic work is Mark Twain's extended attack on Christian Science and its founder, Mary Baker Eddy, who he once described as the "queen of frauds and hypocrites". In 1898, when he set out to write this book, Twain feared that Christian Science would spread so rapidly that it would control Congress by the 1930's. Twain, having suffered the intense sorrow and anguish of the death of two of his children, and later of his beloved wife, Olivia, in 1904, reacted savagely to the claim of Christian Science that pain, sickness, and death do not exist. When Harper's refused to publish "Christian Science" in 1903, Twain interpreted the rejection as suppression and wrote, "The situation is not barren of humour. I had been doing my best to show in print that the Xn Scientist cult has become a power in the land - well, here is the proof: it has scared the biggest publisher in the Union."In this offensive against Mrs. Eddy, Twain analyses her greed, her lust for power, her self-dedication, and her incoherent writing. He examines the rules and by-laws of the church with all the strength of his formidable debating skills. The book was nine years in the making - begun in 1898 and finally published in 1907. This is the first paperback edition of a book that was unavailable to the general public for over fifty years.

Description: What is the nature of world Anglicanism in a postcolonial, global age? This book provides the key to understanding both the character of this Christian tradition and the essential nature of current disputes. It describes the foundations of the tradition and outlines its central beliefs and practices, focusing on mission, liturgy, engagement with others, and power, knowledge and authority in the church. It includes chapters on women's ordination and on homosexuality in the public life of the church, and the final chapter looks to the challenges of the future.
