Description: (The numerical rating above is a default setting

The calm tones emanating from the BBC in World War
II were, for many, the voice of Britain herself;
brave, determined, and unflappable. The medium, as
unprepared for war as other British institutions,
evolved under the unprecedented demands, rising
magnificently to the occasion and becoming an
indespensible part of the Allied war effort.
The history of this heretofore neglected aspect of
the war effort is well told here, with photos,
bibliography, and index.
