Description: This volume marks a departure from earlier descriptive archaeological summaries of the Holy Land. Taking an anthropological and socio-economic perspective, many of the leading archaeologists who work in Israel and Jordan today present timely and concise summaries of the archaeology of this region. Chronologically organized, each chapter outlines the major cultural transitions which occurred in a given archaeological period. To explain the processes which were responsible for culture change, a review is made of the most recent research concerning settlement patterns, innovations and technology, religion and ideology, and social organization. The material culture of every period of human history in the Holy Land is explored from the earliest prehistoric hominids, through the Biblical and historical periods and up to modern (20th century) times. Each chapter is accompanied by settlement pattern maps and a plate highlighting the major artifacts which archaeologists use to identify the material culture of the period. In addition, windows are presented which focus on major social issues and controversies such as "The Agricultural Revolution", the "Israelite Conquest of Canaan" and "Ancient Metal Working and Social Change". This volume should provide students and the general reader with a useful reference volume concerning the archaeology of societies which lived and live in the Holy Land.

Description: Beginning in the late-13th century BC and ending with the fall of Jerusalem in 586 BC, this wide-ranging work looks at Israelite culture and places it within the context of the contemporary Near Eastern world. The book combines recent research with archaeological and epigraphic evidence. It sets the scene with the geography and history of Israel, its origins and social structure, and moves on to look at towns and villages, agriculture, industry and trade, as well as religion and the arts.

Description: WINNER > Best Popular Book on Archaeology --Biblical Archaeology Society
Apocalypse. Judgment Day. The End Time. Armageddon. Students of the Bible know it as the place where the cataclysmic battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil will unfold. Many believe that this battle will take place in the very near future. But few know that Armageddon is a real place--one that has seen more fighting and bloodshed than any other spot on earth.
The name Armageddon is a corruption of the Hebrew phrase Har Megiddo, and it means "Mount of Megiddo." More than thirty bloody conflicts have been fought at the ancient site of Megiddo and adjacent areas of the Jezreel Valley during the past four thousand years. Egyptians, Israelites, Greeks, Muslims, Crusaders, Mongols, British, Germans, Arabs, and Israelis have all fought and died here. The names of the warring leaders reverberate throughout history: Thutmose III, Deborah, Gideon, Saul and Jonathan, Jezebel, Saladin, Napoleon, and Allenby, to name but the most famous. Throughout history Megiddo and the Jezreel Valley have been ground zero for battles that determined the very course of civilization. No wonder that the author of Revelation believed Armageddon, the penultimate battle between good and evil, would also take place here!
The Battles of Armageddon introduces readers to a rich cast of ancient and modern warriors, while bringing together for the first time the wide range of conflicts that have been fought at Megiddo and the Jezreel Valley from the Bronze Age to the Nuclear Age.
Eric H. Cline has participated in more than seventeen seasons of excavation and survey in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Greece, and the United States. He is currently a Senior Staff Archaeologist at the ongoing excavations of Megiddo.

Description: Book Description: Two histories, two faiths, two points of view, all in one "flip-book." Read "Israel in a Nutshell" to follow the development of Israel from God's promise to Abraham and the "chosen people" to the 20th century peace treaties. Flip the book over to read the other side of the story. From the arrival of the Ancient Philistines in the land of Canaan to the construction of the controversial 21st century separation wall, "Palestine in a Nutshell" traces the region's history and politics through the perspective of Muslim Arabs. Through short, easy-to-read chapters, you will find everything you need to know about the PLO, Zionism, the intifada, anti-Semitism, the refugee crisis and more in order to form your own informed opinion about the Arab-Israeli conflict.
