Review Summary: It doesn't really get any better |

Details: This was an EXCELLENT book on authority, answering every question you could possibly have-- with good, moderated principles (no extremism to be found), good illustrations and clear answers. It is excellent for people of all ages-- but especially for young people. I've read it and used it often. It brings clarity to many "gray areas" and uses sound Biblical teaching. |

Review Summary: A Handbook For Controling and Manipulating YOUR Flock. |

Details: If you are a pastor loosing control of your flock, this is the book for you. This author has skillfully twisted scripture to prove that the blessing we receive from God is proportional to the honor we give to church leaders. (see page 122)
According to the author, Hannah was blessed by the words of Eli because she responded to his incorrect assessment with respect and honor. (pages 113-115) I would suggest it was her submission to God, not Eli, that initiated the blessing. (1 Sam.1:9-20) Read Hannah's prayer in 1Sam.2 She knew where her blessing came from and she doesn't mention Eli.
The author uses Matt.10:40-42 to establish the flow of Godly Authority. According to page 119, the flow of authority is: 1.Father(GOD) > 2.Jesus > 3.Prophets(1 of the fivefold ministry gifts) > 4.Righteous Men > 5.Babes(infant believers). This is a very convenient model for a controlling leader who wants to place him or her self over believers. I thought Jesus was the head of the body, the true Bishop of the Church. Wasn't the curtain torn when Jesus died on the cross? Wake up! We are the priesthood of believers, not believers under the priest's hood!
I encourage you to read 1John2:27 before reading this book. Also consider Frank Viola's book "Reimagining Church" to help distinguish between the traditions of men and the doctrines of God.

Review Summary: Toxic Waste |

Details: Unless you crave deception, bondage, and gross distortion of Scriptures, steer clear of this one.
Contrary to the Scriptures, Mr. Bevere seeks to put believers back under the law, teaching us to yield without question or restraint to church authority so we can be protected by God and receive His blessing from the pulpit.
What garbage. Anytime someone points us to submit to the authority of a man or an institution OVER Jesus Christ and the Word of God, or places any man as mediator between us and Christ in lieu of a personal relationship with Christ - then huge red flags should go up. God's blessings don't flow from the pulpit through a leader, but from the Throne of God through His love.
His teaching took a charismatic congregation that we had been members of for 15 years, and turned its leaders into miniature versions of the pope. Bevere introduced a "new catholicism" that usurps Christ and exalts church leaders instead. This is about control and manipulation of congregations.......not truth. So if you like being lied to and then accused of being rebellious if you ask any questions whatsoever, then this is the book for you! |

Review Summary: Wow! |

Details: All I can say is...wow!!! I'm almost done with the book. There are some deep stuff in here about submission to authority which I know many folks lack knowledge of. This book clears up a lot of dangling confusion in my life. Every Christian needs to read this book.
Here's something that hit me...you can bring many people to God and they get saved and you'll still be in trouble on Judgment Day if you lived your life in rebellion against authorities which God has placed over your life.
Rebellion against authority is another major reason why there are so many divisions and discord in the Body of Christ.
I'm so glad I read this book. I am appalled at all the low ratings of 1. |
