Description: "Ladders to Literacy" is an innovative supplemental classroom curriculum that allows educators to address the needs of children who are at risk for reading failure - without giving up their current language programming. Included are more than 50 fun, skill-building activities to use with large groups of children. The activities are organized into three sections emphasizing print awareness, metalinguistic, and oral language skills - skills that strongly correlate to reading success. By selecting activities - activities that are appropriate for young children who are developing typically and those who have disabilities or special needs - from each section, teachers can focus on the areas in which their classes need the most work while ensuring that children get well-rounded, comprehensive instruction. The second edition will include approximately 10 new lessons and tips for teachers, as well as a new introductory chapter. "Ladders To Literacy" is spiral bound, single volume, early childhood oriented language and arts literacy program that provides classroom teachers with more than sixty culturally sensitive, developmentally appropriate student activities which have been successfully tested for a decade under research and practical conditions alike. Organized into three major sections (Print/Book Awareness Skills; Metalinguistic Awareness Skills; Oral Language Skills), "Ladders To Literacy" provides the foundation for children to master key elements of the reading process successfully.
