Description: Widely recognized as one of the most valuable resources in speech-language pathology, the respected Hegde's PocketGuide to Treatment in Speech-Language Pathology is now in its third edition. Designed as a companion volume to the PocketGuide to Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology, Third Edition, it provides clinical practitioners and students in communication sciences and disorders a quick reference for treatment techniques. The most desirable features of a specialized dictionary of terms, clinical resource book, and textbook of treatment are combined in this single, easy-to-access resource. Treatment techniques are provided in a "do this" format. Information not directly related to treatment techniques has been moved to the new PocketGuide to Communication Disorders, allowing for expanded coverage of treatment techniques and the addition of important new entries, making this edition more relevant and useful than ever!
Details: Maybe it's just me, but this book wasn't very helpful. I just graduated with my masters and referred to it a couple of times throughout my practicum experiences hoping each time the book would be different, but it never really helped me figure anything out.
Review Summary: great "pocket book"

Details: This book was a suggested book for one of my courses. I didn't buy it for awhile because it was another book I had to buy. When I saw it at the bookstore and flipped through it I thought it was great. It's like a dictionary for SLP ! It's definitely worth and it is SO easy to use and find information quickly. I highly recommend getting it!
Review Summary: Incredible informative pocketguide for SLP's!

Details: Wonderful guide and so easy to read. Very concise and easy to flip to the exact disorder you are wondering how to treat or assess! One of the best SLP books I have!
Review Summary: I know the techniques work from personal experience

Details: The author of this book also happens to be my speech therapist. I suspect he's been using these treatments on me, and they've been working. To the snake oil guy: if there is any bias in this book, it is towards effectiveness. Unlike mentalistic psychology (believe me, we've had endless arguments about mentalism vs. behavioralism), Dr. Hegde tries to use the scientific method to approach any number of communicative disorders. The treatments are based in the scientific method, and are, by definition, verifiable, repeatable, and emperical. No mentalism here!
Review Summary: Wonderful Reference

Details: This is an excellent resource for a practicing speech-language pathologist in any setting. It quickly reminds you of all of the things you learned in graduate school, but have since forgotten. It is much easier to look up information here than to dig through all of your old textbooks and notes. I am shocked that Amazon even printed the earlier review giving this text only one star. The reviewer did not write a review of this book. He simply attacked the entire field of speech-language pathology.
