Description: Everything Your Friends Wanted to Know about Christianity and You Were Afraid They'd AskSuch questions as: How can there be a good God with all the suffering in the world? Isn't religion just an emotional crutch? How do we even know there is a God? How many times have you been placed in an uncomfortable situation when faced with skeptical questions about Christianity? You know Christianity is true, but you are unable to communicate the truth effectively. The Apostle Peter told us to always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks us about the hope that is in us. I'm Glad You Asked can help you become that able defender of the faith. This classic book, first published in 1982, explains the alternatives to the Christian position and then demonstrates why the Christian worldview is valid. It provides answers to the basic questions people ask and guides you logically through these questions with helpful flow charts. And it shows, most importantly, how each objection is really an opportunity to present the Gospel. Dr. Ken Boa is involved in a varied ministry of lifestyle evangelism and discipleship, teaching, writing, and speaking. His other books include Cults, World Religions, and the Occult, also from Victor. Larry Moody is the president of Search Ministries, a parachurch organization that assists adults in the process of lifestyle evangelism and discipleship through modeling and training.

Description: Responding to the need she so clearly perceives, Ms. Dondis, a designer and teacher of broad experience, has provided a beginning text for art and design students and a basic text for all other students—those who do not intend to become artists or designers but who need to acquire the essential skills of understanding visual communication at a time when so much information is being studied and transmitted in non-verbal modes, especially through photography and film. Understanding through seeing only seems to be an obviously intuitive process. Actually, developing the visual sense is something like learning a language, with its own special alphabet, lexicon, and syntax. People find it necessary to be verbally literate whether they are "writers": or not; they should find it equally necessary to be visually literate, "artists" or not. This primer is designed to teach students the interconnected arts of visual communication. The subject is presented, not as a foreign language, but as a native one that the student "knows" but cannot yet "read." The analogy provides a useful teaching method, in part because it is not overworked or too rigorously applied. This method of learning to see and read visual data has already been proved in practice, in settings ranging from Harlem to suburbia. Appropriately, the book makes some of its most telling points through visual means. Numerous illustrated examples are employed to clarify the basic elements of design (teach an alphabet), to show how they are used in simple syntactic combinations ("See Jane run."), and finally, to present the meaningful synthesis of visual information that is a finished work of art (the apprehension of poetry...).

Description: It may surprise readers to discover that Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world, according to The Complete Idiot's Guide to Islam. "However, even more eye-opening is the fact that Islam is the fastest growing religion in North America," writes author Yahiya Emerick (How to Tell Others About Islam). Paradoxically, Islam is also one of the most misunderstood and maligned religions in North America. Fortunately, Emerick has written a viable antidote to the widespread confusion and ignorance. Using the Idiot's Guide's formula of questions and answers, sidebars, and small, easy-to-digest essays, Emerick makes Islam accessible to anyone who is inclined to learn more about this influential religion. Readers have much to glean from this comprehensive and balanced guidebook--primarily that Islam is a prayerful, peace-loving religion that has been misused in the name of terror, just as Hitler and other extremists have misused Christianity throughout history. Emerick devotes an entire section to "Looking at Women in Islam," in which readers can sort through even more misconceptions. The Idiot's Guide title belies the integrity of the book, which is an important contribution for our times. --Gail Hudson
